As some have you know i've purchased a Volvo with the intention of doing the conversion over next winter. The Engine will be removed in the coming months and rebuilt to the best of my ability in the garage ready for the 5 to come off the road as always at the end of September.

I'm just looking ahead and want to line up any parts in need. Marky Mark has already helped shed light on the few things to change to allow my manual box to mate up, as the volvo is an auto. He's sorting me out a flywheel and i hope to have most other parts.

I know i need a different engine mount (GTX) anyone got one?

Any body give me some advise on other things to consider and where to source?

I have a front mount, T28, ill go to Scoff nearer the time for the ECU mod, where is the best place to get the injectors? New engine gaskets?

Thanks

Jay

Oh I'm also after a cam from one of the 1.7 Volvo NA engines and ill be following the big Jim manifold route.

Anyone know where i can get a flywheel lightened and balanced?

E/ep cam, 2l n/a throttle body, drill the engine mount to fit the block, braided oil feed, decent clutch as t28 and a fair chunk of boost will ruin standard one, custon downpipe or (what I did) custom manifold and use gtt down pipe, volvo 740 injectors with resistor pack or whate stve sent me renault 19 16v ibjectors. Poss more but think of any more atm.

Thanks Schwartz,

E/ep cam? Why 2L throttle body?

Heard about drilling the mount as the GTX ones are like hens teeth. Got a green box valeo clutch sat on the side in the garage. As said above i'm going to get the BigJim manifold so will use my enlarged DP and have a bung welded in for AFR's. Will also look out for the injectors then.

I'm also after inspiration on how to make the intake manifold look better and get rid of the Volvo logo etc. tempted to have it machined off and all polished up.

If you go down the log route like me you will need to do something with the water pipe out of the head. I cut mine off and used a rubber hose to rotate it, also if big jim makes it up make sure he has inlet mani and head as my exh mani was made to thin so I had to mess about getting it yo bolt up and it fowled on the block so I had to cut it down. 2l tb is a lot bigger lets lots more air through you need to mess about getting the b18ft throttle position sensor to bolt up easy enoigh tho.

Alright captain, gary is spot on with the parts needed, only difference on mine is i have a richmod ecu, or so i have been told, orange t5 injectors, i had my cam re-profiled at piper with new shims ias its hard to find ep cam, flywheel was also lightened and balanced, larger 2.0l throttle body, also nightmare to find, trev sorted it for me by pure luck, then i also spent some time porting and polishing lots of bits.

I have a t28 sat in the garage but probably not going to use it, the little thing feels pretty lively now just running 10psi.

I think a nice custom made 4 branch manifold and downpipe would be the way to go if looking to run a t28 and move it round over the gearbox for ease.

My gasket sets cost me about £100 for top and bottom, i bought a new water pump and spent some cash rebuilding some of the bottom end and the head building up. I also had the gearbox rebuilt with a 215 clutch.

You have read my thread, if you want a chat, give me a buzz.

You can pretty much chuck it in with a combination of volvo and gt parts, or do what i did and waste a wad of cash

Can anyone advise what engines or model Volvo the throttle body comes from?

Thanks

got my gtx engine mount last year and it was £20, but i think it was 1 of the last, i have been told the extra van has a very similar mount only beefier and may carry a different part number

I think a cam from any N/A motor based on the same engine will work netter then the standard cam, obviously all the cams will differ slightly so some may work better then others.
Wonder how the Clio RSI cam measures up or a Laguna 2.0l cam, might be worth sourcing a few so may keep my eyes open at scrappies

SCHWARTZ

Can anyone advise if the TB in the attached photos will do for the 1.7? its off a 2.0l 1994 480 celebration.

I'm being advised there are several different 2.0l TB's, its different to the one Philg has but will it still work??? Markey Mark?

Thanks x

It looks more like the one gary had a picture of in the thread link i put up.

Hard to say captain, its hard to tell when its not all infront of you, is the mounting plate the same size?

I had to mess round with the switch on mine to get it to fit and i know gary changed his shaft and the butterfly i think.

best i can do mate :)

SCHWARTZ
10-05-2011, 21:48
yes i have this one also. it does physically fit you would have to swap the tps for b18ft one or if using bigger injectors prob better to just leave the loom off. the reason i didnt try fitting it is it has a lot of take offs some bypassing the butterfly and i didnt know if this would mess up the boost/fueling. I may have to fit it tho as i have lost the bleed screw to my ep body if i cant get a screw for it and have to fit this body il let ya know how it goes;)

have you seen my for sale thread as theres a few bits already made to fit that you may be interested in. the inlet manifold has ' electronic fuel injection' instead of the usual 'volvo intercooler turbo'. tb are off the 2ltr es model, that one looks newer but should work, from memory the oe butterfly is 46mm, 2ltr 55mm ?
e cam is from b18e engine, has a 4 into 1 inlet manifold. or there's the b18ep cam, again from memory has the same lift but less duration. dont know the specs of any others as these are more common but monaco/gtx, clio rsi and other 1.7 varients fit, a rare find but i beleive there is a non uk member running a gts (gtx) cup cam.
