Anything in limited supply drives up price and collectibilty. I used to collect vintage Tamiya and those have crazy prices.

I think if you can afford it and its what you want/need you'll pay. Nothing against CGB here, well done for sourceing and selling it :).

On another note, I'm sure someone could refurb these, I was going to give it a go. Just a stencil, professional ink and possibly laquer.

Rob my comment re CGB was tongue in ckeek' it is supply and demand for a rare item and yes I have been known to pay silly money for similar rare bits. I also wondered where they got it's a it couldn't have had too many miles on it.

Purple rob you say you used to collect vintage tamiyas, are sandscorchers worth owt these days?

40 odd bids, cant believe it. If red paint on your gearknob is worth that much to you, then you must have one pretty fine 5.

My old 5 had about 90k on the clock, and the red on the top of the gear knob was still very visible

Mmm! Well that just makes a hundred and seventy quid even more difficult to explain away.

this gear knob was off my mates car that i put for sale on here not so long ago due to me not haveing the money for the car other wise i would have had it off him the car was then bought vie ebay by cgb so he paid the ending bid of £870 bargain and has made 2/3 time that amount back in breaking it for parts as for the gear knob it was bought from renault not so long ago for no wear near that amount that i do no

A few years ago the sand scorcher was worth a mint in any condition. A new boxed one would have done over 1k. I used to make the little mirrors for them.

Unfortunately, they rereleased it so the price of an original has drastically dropped. It is however, probably the highest collected Tamiya model.

I just fitted my brandnew never used one of those last night after being stored for 5 years. Guess ill be wrapping it in cling film to protect the precious red decal.

That's ridiculous! Just make a stencil and paint it if you want the red writing that bad!!

Before I finish this car I might just start selling off the good bits  thats crazy money for a gearknob and a gaitor which has splits in it.
