Iam selling the steel liners on the bay of evil and i recive this email.... am i going mad? or is this guy making things up?

I assume he means a liner that's been wire-ringed.

Some liners have a sharp lip to bite into the head gasket

My steel liners just look like the standard items except made from different material.

First time I have come across this as mine are the same as jrp steel liners ???

I got asked as well when I sold mine, I told the guy the only way I could tell was steel ones ring when you flick them, the cast ones don't.... he still bought them off me with that explaination :wasntme:

FFS. AFAIK it's a wire ring that is embedded in the circular face of the top of the liner. The top of this metal ring protrudes slightly proud of the liner face giving something for the head gasket to seal against/around.
