1st off is it normal that when you turn on the headlights the revs drop?? 2nd what is the right rpm the 5 should run at idle??:coffee:
Sorry if im bein stupid but im just interested to knw!:o
cheers:agree:
When turning on anything electrical it puts more load on the alternator / battery so revs can drop if its not producing enough power to hold it in place, as for revs, think I always looked at getting it to idle around 800 which seemed to be happy with but depends on the engine really.

i think the book states between 700 and 900 rpm with no load ie no lights on.
and yes it is normal for a 5 to drop RPMs when yo turn on the lights etc. BTW it will struggle more when you turn on more electric items which use a lot of power ie heated windscreen - main beams - 10kw bass etc.
Worry not.

Renault state that the idle should be set to 650 +/- 50rpm.
Quite right Bill.
And what revs the engine is doing in comparison to the rev counter is anyone's guess :D
