Well after a backlog of work and changing my mind (not like me :scared:) http://www.rtoc.org/boards/showthread.php?t=19511&page=2

It is almost time to start - will share some pics of the conversion for those interesed

Car is a locost race car which comes with all the nice track day bits fitted inc Spa digi dash and standalone management, full cage etc etc

I was never going to be happy with 165bhp even in 535kg and the quest started for the best route to upgrade based on not spending loads as it is a pure track car

After lots of measuring and costing of various options

VAG was working out too much as the 20V are in more demand now and holding good money and the tsi ECU not fully cracked etc and cant be bothered with the hassell or poss costs and still needed to resolve the gearbox option

Then there was the B204 saab and omega box which in fairness was almost a done deal and looked very good

Then it was keep it simple and sc the current zetec in the car but the box needed a lot of cash spending to cope and then

Ended up measuring a SR20DET setup from a 200sx S14 and even the ratios and diff look ok based on the smaller wheel / tyre combo

Know NOTHING about jap cars (not that that will stop me) but spoke to a few good friends (thanks for the pointers Adey :agree:) who know them and seems a good little unit and hope to start in a few weekends

Doing some maths should be good for 500-600bhp per ton in stage 1 spec - got slicks for it to collect but expect a bit of a handfull lol

1st track day RTOC ND and Spa prov booked for later in the year http://www.vx220.org.uk/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif

Hope to collect donor car this weekend - look out :wasntme:

Adam was selling a freshly forged SR20DET, for a bit of a bargain a little while back. It might be too good for one of those skateboard things though :cooter:

Sure it would not the bargain I am thinking of - remember I have had training from Mart for many years now :coffee:

Looking at the car in question tomorrow and hope to leave deposit and collect over weekend - Adam be quick if you have an option for me :cooter:

Thanks Bill, happy to wedge you in the pax seat if you want a lap ND - trust me I do need to loose weight atm or going nowhere in it lol

Maybe even Mart on his new special K diet will fit come ND ;)

Cheers mate - I'll bring my giant shoe-horn ;). I'll need it! I've been doing nothing but sit on the sofa for the last 6 weeks, thanks to a knackered head/neck/chest/back/arm/hand

its fairly easy to get 450bhp at the wheels from that lump. cheap too...
turbo xs stuff all the way....

11-03-2011, 09:23
Well think on big straight at Spa I may let you keep up Mart as it makes the EVO look VERY streamline lol - this really is a brick with cage sticking out :p prob need 1000bhp to go past 150 :crap:

Adey it will be fine - got a plumed in fire system already....may want to get a service and refill to be on the safe side :scared:

Cant see 450 at the wheels be anything other than dangerous :cooter: but may wind it up for the pod day and hold on tight!

Small update;

Went to view the doner car but was not as advertised and we could not agree on price so did some further measurments while there and realised the read diff may not be an option so prob use the cossie one but other than that looks a compact setup for what it is - am not going to be able to retain the cast manifold but not 100% sure until its dropped in. Box looks fine and the ratios all suit - so still on the look out for donor bits

Due to lack of time and ND getting close I have decided to do the project in 2 stages to make sure I have the car to drive at Mallory :cooter:

Stage1
1. Retain oe engine / box and some tweaks to improve what there;
2. Some lumpy cams
3. Fettle with the twin 40's (cant justify paying for twin 45's when the engine is not staying)
4. Full going over service
5. Get it mapped
Should give 190bhp - limit of 7500rpm or it was solid lifters and all the extra cost of head off and although 220bhp is avaiable it would be itb's or at a min the twin 45's which again adds up too much

Then there are outstanding things anyway which need doing
1. Fit new seats
2. change disc / pads setup
3. full geo setup and test suspension etc
4. spare wheels, slicks fitted
5. Maybe l/b the fly :D
6. New colour scheme and sort the dash
7. service box and diff
etc etc

Stage2
1. buy engine, box, ecu etc etc for the conversion
2. service while off car

Then it will be pull the old stuff out and start the magic but have the old stuff to drop in at anytime for track day etc if it has not progressed enough or waiting for funds to clear

But cant see it happening in time before ND but plenty of time befroe Spa :coffee:

Big thanks to Penfold who is helping me out ref some collection of parts local :agree:

Should be starting next weekend and hope to have it mapped for the following fortnight

Good engine choice!!!!

Ive got an SR20DET in my Luego with locost GRP. Its a tall engine and mine stickes out the bottom a bit (only been through one sump) lol

I had to cut the chassis to get the engine as far back as posible and the box in the tunnel. Im only running stage 1 (about 260bhp) and that allot of fun!!!

You can wire them up with 6 wires if you get a nats free S14 (not s14a(Facelift))

anything you need just shout

Flan thanks for the offer and will def take you up on the offer :agree:

Clee we never race on track you know that :D in fact last time I as on track with you (oulton) you got mad and raced yourself in to full on spin off the track and was blaming the car :scared: :cooter:

Really looking forward to getting started with the engine conversion but going to be very tight as the locost is a lot thinner than most (wide bodies other 7 replica cars) and want to cut the chassis as little as poss

I have finally managed to get time to have a good look at the car in current stage and is a LA Gold version built by Procomp Motorsport so is not restricted to the reg of the normal locost race cars. Basically the chassis is different (better) and a lot better handling with mre trick bits

Sump was a worry but will work something out

No Worries Dude, my chassis is a narrow type to so it will fit :) LA golds are very good! Matt at Procomp Motorsport did all my suspention set up and they know their stuff!!

Here is an early build pic of mine….

Also you can run the std S14 front prop (its in 2 sections) if you make an adaptor like this
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a282/FlansS14/23092007219.jpg (http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a282/FlansS14/23092007219.jpg)

The tricky bit is keeping it cool with a big intercooler. Im running a chargecooler. I used to have the prerad at the front but now run a big Alloy rad in the front for the engine and separate chargecooler rad in the boot with fans… works a treet! I also have lots of holes to get rid of the heat… them turbo lumps get warm ;)

After giving Adey a load of crap (banter) also about there been tuition available I do a 720 spin out of druids on a sighting lap lol - FAIL :ashamed: pulled in after the lap and got told if I had not done much track driving there was instructors here today who could help - thanks for that

That VX in the wet/damp was a handfull and took me a while to get the less is more correction to snap oversteer :cooter:

Cams and Adj Verniers ordered and due this week

Got to love trade discount!!!!

Order service items this week (trade discount not so impressive)

Got it booked in for RR session and have a good play with the twin 40's can only go as big as 36mm choke/venturi but cheaper than buying a set of twin 45's!

Discs and pads setup revised and confirmed so thats getting ordered up this week

Pulled in a favour with a good friend (2bluar) who will be be making me a silencer that works (he does all the stuff on VX's for me and quality is A1) - current one is VERY VERY loud and would poss not even make Mallory

Almost a danger of getting a few cheeky pics uploaded :coffee:

MASSIVE thanks to Shop Boy (aka Penfold, aka Chris Smith) :cooter:

Collected my cams & verniers today and managed in true PMT styleeee to get some free bits thrown it :agree:

May be collecting the SR20DET lump and most bits this weekend which causes a slight dilema as want to start this but playing it safe with zetec upgrades but of course adding extra costs :disagree:

Also a BIG thanks to Flan for his advice

Well slight change of plans -

Not fitting the new sexy lumpy cams and adj verniers - so need to sell now

But on a happy note collect the engine Wednesday after work and should have a gearbox at the weekend........................so between other comitments have 3 weeks to do the full conversion :coffee:

And limited in spending full weekends on it so should be interesting but owed a LOT of favours off some good friends who have the skills to assist and calling them all in :agree:

It BEGINS!!!!!!:smokin:

Blame Flan for the final push after a chat with him to get some more info :cooter:

Duncan Grier

Still post them sir :)

Easier for me to advertise, sell post etc than put you out any further

Don't think they would take them back tbh but should have no problems selling them on as they are used a lot in the 750motorsport club for the race series now

Small update;

Engine collected and in the garage - need a few items to complete it but need to confirm a few things 1st and mainly some gaskets, studs, bolts needed other than injectors, actuator for turbo and coil packs (may not be usnig these though) oh and AMM

Turbo in the post - retaining oe T28 A/R60 for now on std manifold which I already have

Collect gearbox next weekend and just need to get a clutch and flywheel (prob use a l/b fly)

Been harrasing Obi One Scoff and getting him to do the mapping and just working out best option for ECU - have a full Emerald but its an older version so need to see if its upto the job if not Adaptronic it is. Had a look at the Apexi power FC stuff but seemed a lot of cash for the ones I found and at least with standalone I can use it on anything else in the future if things chnge around.

Could retain oe ecu but not a fan of having my bum smacked by (tuners lol) for any mods

Collecting the car from my friends garage for next weekend also and will get it stipped ready for (pending other commitments) off to my friend to help with the chassis work (he is busy finishing Lee Nobles new car this week which is at Mira getting smashed up for testing )

So will get some pictures up by next weekend to try and keep you all interested :agree:

Just hope the live axel / diff setup copes with the new found power lol

Bit of a delay due to a family bereavement :(

But back to a happier note!!!!!

Now have a gearbox in the garage, turbo, few other smaller items I needed and just reviewing the spreadsheet of doom for the build as time is really against me now :coffee:

So the track beast is getting dropped off by Rob thu early evening and Friday is strip back to chassis ready for the following weekend off to Dave's unit for the chassis work (plan to try and get it done in a day with the 2 of use)

Then get the pipe work done back at mine, got a few I/C's in the garage to trial and called in a favour for some free alloy rad work (new radiator and poss tweak or new I/C)

May need to steal one of my engine stands back off Clee for a day :cooter: in fact while you there Clee ;) might as well help lol

Then get Obi one scoff in for some super linear power delivery and should be finished about 3hrs before the track day LOL

Will get some pictures uploaded for next week :agree:

Quick update and will try to get the pics uploaded tonight if I can find the lead for the camera

Well had a about a day spare in the end spread out over the long weekend and got all the old bits out and stripped back the loom and split the ECU bits out and cleared up the wiring for the Spa dash and associated bits (sensors etc) and then was left with a very small space for a big engine and box lol

Then test fitted the box – 1st problem – it didn’t but 2 cuts will get it in and just need to weld back in a slightly different place and also some of the extra (if you can call it that) space to the left of the clutch pedal needs to go but then after some serious tape measure action it will go and the offset between the box and diff is not as much as 1st feared and should be fine.

Engine was never fitting to start but after removing most thing and will need to mount the alt on the turbo side it fits but need to remote the oil filter or mod the rack so remote it is. Looks like after more tape measure and spirit level action it all lines up….JUST!!!! and may even get away with leaving both of the 2 main top sections of chassis I thought would have to be cut

So this week need to drill out some rivets to release some of the chassis to cut and hope this weekend to get it in the unit for welding and make the mounts etc, there is def going to be a bonnet buldge :D but will make good effect of this for a practical reason

Also found one of the dampers has lost its pressure so something else to do
Amazing how much excess weight was on the engine with the aircon pump, p/s and the big steel bracket holding it on all weighed

So after a large moment of bugger it don’t fit what to do now 3hrs fresh mon morning have pictures of the engine in the car and lots of drawings for the fitment

That engine in such a light car is looking for some dangerous potential:agree:. There's a couple of guys that have done the same on sxoc and one of them is being built as we speak with 1000bhp per ton, which frankly, is ****ing stupid:wasntme:

I am eger to see this unfold. Like I said to Duncan last week, my car does rolling burn outs all through 2nd gear with 255 semi slicks on the rear, so this is going to be sick!!:D

Very quick update but will put more when I have time,

After a full day on sunday (after taking way too long to load car with engine etc and car on trailer etc etc) got to work on double checking everything before cutting the tunnel to get the box in, spent some time working it nice and far back without any major cutting and happy withits position, then onto the engine and had a comp between engine rotation and box which wanted to sit staright (gear mech section) for the car but then the engine was sitting at slight angle and visa versa

In the end settled for the better gearlever location and slight angle on the engine, happy its not an issue but still bugging me this morning and may review  lol, some meaty mounts made up and called time with it all back in the car nice and def not moving

Chose not to cut a main bit of the chassis in favour of custom tubi manifold so fear time is against me now and maloory looking a bit too close but will carry on and see how it goes but rather do it right :scared:

Ok dont ask me how because I dont know but just purchased another SR20DET engine but this one complete with box, ecu etc etc etc

Basically I am short of a load of little things and struggling to get hold of in time or a price I am willing to pay lol

So will sell the current engine / box and hope to maybe just run it on oe setup for mallory and then get the standalone on after when there is less pressure and more time.

Got to cut the bit of chassis I tried so hard to leave but it is what it is and have to try and put back as much strength as poss :coffee:

It may still not hapen but going to spend a full day this weekend coming to finish the fabrication work and start the plumbing etc in the evening next week

THink I may be running out of favours with the unit take over if I dont get it done soon :cooter:

My Car (clio 20v) wont be done in time so ill bring my Kit car out to play ;)

what you doing for an intercooler.... i had overheating problems to start with running a pre rad for my chargecooler infront of the car rad.

I "think" i have a pulsar gtir intercooler somewhere with one end turned round (both ends at the top)

oh and hurry up.... time is ticking ;)

Got the full S14 engine, box, ecu and loom etc last night so need ot give it a clean (looks to have an oil leak but been there forever by the look of it)

So Sunday is finish chassis work and engine / box in and then its propshaft and loom etc and hope I have enough bits to make it work :scared: - Flan expect a frantic call saying where do this go lol

Cooling is currently using the caterham lavente (spelling?) rad and cooler - that runs 550bhp so should be fine - the v8 s/c thingie - basically pulled a favour from who makes them for the kit as a VERY DG happy price. Will have to mod the nose cone to fit it all but prob worth it in the long run

Got to weld another feed to the alloy tank as its now going to be efi not carbs and got a spare swirl pot and 044 pump so will go for that

I have a good solid 2 full days left to build how hard could it be lol

Be interesting to see yours flan :agree: make sure I dont steal any bits :cooter:

I am having to moun tthe rad and I/C both in front of the chassis which actually is better than this layout but the kit is based o the SV chassis which is quite a bit wider so hence my nose cone will be.......well tweaked lol

Not far from you on sunday finishing the chassis work and gearbox mount, propshaft, fuel tank mod, alt bracket.....oh its a full on day and not an option to be there till late

Gonig to try and get an hr tonight to put the new engine / box back in and cut a few more bits out :scared: spent an hr last night for my spare box to be collected for him to not turn up  fecker

Good going mate :) It's all about the last minute rush-around! :D

Doesn't look like I'll be bringing the Evo to Mallory, so I'll be after a few pax laps me old fruit ;)

Mart I desperatly DID NOT want the usually build the night before setup but as always life has stolen my spare time and even the S3 is not finished yet so its crack on and finish the beast or weld the bloody diff in the omega estate LOL

Was hoping after covering 1000's of miles and loads of track days with you and that car I may finally get out in that jap taxi :scared: FAIL! lol

More than happy to give a pax ride pending

1. it working
2. you fitting lol
3. been able to drive it LOL

Stop been tight and get the jap taxi south

Having a good chat with Flan yesterday and worked a cheeky deal with him to save some time on my exhaust custom build :agree: lots will be changed for the future but for now - std ecu, turn the boost up a touch (well you have to :D) and see if it works

It's not a case of being tight mate - I'm driving out to ze fatherland on Sunday, and it's too much of a mission (read stupid early start) to get the Evo back up here Sunday morning, for me to then jump in a company car, boot it down to Ashford to catch a reasonable (hopefully!) time ET train, then a ~6hr drive to Stuttgart.

I was thinking of knocking the Saturday night @ Mallory on the head, but would miss out on the fun & games then  plus I'm/we're now not eligible for a room refund from that hotel we're all booked in at.

Anyway, I'll bring my lid, just incase...

Dude I had a tear in my eye reading that :o LOL

Man up biach :coffee:

leave the evo at mine if it helps in any way? But understand the logistics, could be tempted to steal that room for the night if you get stuck

Def bring the lid though :agree:

See you soon bad boy ;)

I have long legs and need 2 lol

Sorry read that wrong (blame 2 nights of no sleep due to Benji been ill) yes have our own room the sat :coffee: - were you staying the fri night also? That was what I thought you were unable to make and hence may been able to take the room

DOH, time to sleep on keyboard :scared:

Your not getting out of staying the Sat geeza :smokin:

We're there both nights mate, as is Steve & Sarah, Lomo & Nicola, and Billy Pallets.

You & Sarah, Ricardo & his missus, and possibly Alex are down as staying the one night (Saturday).

If you now want to stay the Friday night as well, you'll need to contact the hotel, mention the group booking (*), and see if the guy can sort you a room for Friday.

* which, if you do stay both nights, then entitles you & Sarah to free breakfast :agree:

Duncan Grier
20-05-2011, 12:14
Roger that!

Dont get me started on breakfast there after last year when they forgot even though told twice and argued I never told them lol :cooter:

Ok well as it stands there for the sat night only but see how things go - may still be working on the car

Just finished getting final spec for the I/C and rad setup and going to have to lose 100mm height off the rad but will still be more than upto the job of cooling

I/C is 565mm across and 380mm height depth 80mm inc outlets (sure is 40 or 50mm core)

Rad now 370mm height and 530mm across with 50mm core

Overall depth when together in love = 170mm which should be fine :agree:

For once something is working out and even managed to sweet talk him for some free hose work  so hopefully temps (which I have issues with lol) should be taken care of!

Well struggled with free time this weekend but did manage 2 hrs very late Sat night ready for the Sunday morning trip to friends for more fabrication work. And got a good 5hrs work on sun

As always nothing is straight forward and my list of 6 jobs ended up with getting one done....but the most important and time consuming.

Gearbox custom mounts done, replacement engine and box complete fitted with turbo etc all attached and also extra work to make it fit - actuator has 1mm clearence from chassis ;) its that kind of close - EVERYWHERE lol

So decided to use the oe mount point on the gearbox and the hard bit was working out where they were and how high it was as with the box in it was blind and with it out bit hit and miss measuring due to funcky angles and no room to get any form of measuring tool in etc etc etc

Anyway got there in the end and have to say VERY happy with the final engine / box mounting - finished the welding to the mounts stated a few weeks back also. So with tubing cut to size and blind bold welted to repair washers it was all welded together and one side bolts onto the oe studs and the other is accessed through a very nice small access hole from under the car. Job done, Rob has some better pics but had 3 cheeky ones on the phone which I will try and upload and share now :agree:

Not bitter or twisted about forgetting the release bearing for the box so guess what I am doing 1 evening for no bloody good reason

Ok managed to meet up with Flan earlier in the week for a dodgy deal on an ind est :cooter: but got to see his sr20det powered beast and have to say sounded great and went like I hoped :agree:

So have most of the exhaust bits now and hope to make this weekend

Also got the engine back out last night and fitted fully this time and converted the clutch to hydraulic, only problem is the starter motor fouls the chassis so need trimming dowm a touch but was too late for grinder :(

Also got a load of pipework for the cooland / boost etc and collect the remote oil filter kit this weekend so thats the oil sorted

Alas the i/c and rad options will not be done in time so its oe little rad and a vx i/c for now lol, spend time after installing how I want

Got a day in the machine shop lined up and few things to make / tweek inc propshaft, few brackets, remove 2 broken studs out of turbo - dont ask!!!!

started the fuel pump and swirl pot install also

Getting soooo close but sooo little time as well :scared:

See how it goes

Ok some good progress yesterday and fuel setup done and just need wiring, made alt bracket and fitted, loom installed, propshaft cut and ready to weld this week, turbo removed to get broken studs out, rad installed, pipe work done

Quite a bit left but getting there ;)

KNACKERED LOL

Duncan Grier
01-06-2011, 08:13
2 steps forward 1 step bk - ended up with the tubi manifold off after another the stud holding it on broke :( so need to track down a gasket asap and hopefully some bolts / studs (not the normal size I have spare) oh and circlip on actuator bracket broke lol

Engineering friend has the propshaft to join but in a true enineer mode moaning about strength and lock of sleeving etc etc etc.....just sort it was my response :cooter:

Got the final list of parts required and looks like some true pmt is required on the oil filter as the remote location kit sticks out too far still lol - so BIG dent in corner of filter it is :ashamed:

So hope to get to the machine sho after work to remove broken studs and then get it all bk on and hopefully start to address the wiring  then thu / fri is welding some bosses on for sensors on spa dash and also make the exhaust, fit the propshaft, mod the bonnet (it will be very PMT  aka a big hole in the middle lol) attend to guess boost and see if it starts :wasntme:

It is starting to sound a smaller list but know its going to be VERY VERY close!!!!!!

Be gutted if its not ready

Well as a few of you may have seen I got to the track late and with no car :disagree:

It was finished and driving but then an issue with my friend been able to take the trailor and car back home after and after a few FULL on days could not be arsed so put it back in the garage

Will get some pictures sorted but the very short drive was....its bloody quick and sure most of you saw Flans very similar car going round the track to get a view of what it will be like

Hope to get it on track early next month which gives me a day or so spare to finish and tidy up a few bits that got thrown in.

GUTTED it never worked out but very pleased it works lol

Just about finished this project now and by some strange sad turn of events looking to start another :wasntme:

Project BARGE (omega barge coming off the road to put the S3 on and thinking omega estate, nice interior (proper seats and bring the horrible wood upto date, sort the body work and get it on decent suspension, wheels etc............................................... then onto my fave bit - engine conversion :smokin:

Atm its going to be V8, v6 turbo or 2/2.5 turbo option

RB25/26 turbo lump looks interesting although the SR20DEt is really an easy option

RS4 engine currently at top of hit list if for nothing else noise

Saab turbo lumps B204 stuff bolts onto current omega box / diff so bit easier

LSx v8 range a big option

BMW 335i option athough know nothing about hem really other than seem to make good power

And not forgetting vag tsi range

Atm the larger engines are making more sense but goal is to keep a practical barge but make it look half decent and 400bhp ftw

I need to get out more:coffee::coffee::coffee:

Big thanks to everyone who has helped to get this car running (Flan got most of the questions lol) most of the fabrication help are ext to this site so no point naming but its all VERY good :cooter:

Ok well not much progress at all since ND due to no free time but managed a few hrs and sorted a few jobs I never knew I had :scared:

But got half day on it this weekend and hope to finish most of the prep work and sensor gauge mounting before final day of fabrication work and then its bit of paint and set boost up

Going to stick oe map for now and up the boost a bit (220+bhp) just to get it out there and see how it goes. The electronic boost controller also gives me the option of stock boost (200bhp) and a bit less if required for poss wet days :sad2:

Main work left mech / fab wise is redo the angle of exhaust / downpipe, finish the missing section of bonnet (it has a sr20det size hole in it lol) new boost hose with T pieces, nose cone ducting, few other small items

Then its harass Mart and have a track day :cooter:

Big thing to confirm atm is if the rear diff has had the crush washer removed for a solid spacer and if we chuck an lsd in there (it is un proven at these torque levels so could be interesting)

But hope the std 185 cut slicks will not be enough to hut the diff before spinning or even the slick maybe :agree:

Will get some recent pictures uploaded at some point also so you get a better idea of progress

250bhp should be easy at around a bar and I ran a stock ecu. I hit 102mph terminals last year at Pod with the stock weight on the S14a, which roughly equates to that power.

I'm now getting 113mph at 1.2bar on the GT30 with a stock engine and a similar weight

Duncan Grier
15-07-2011, 08:38
Adam 250 with stock ecu and no chip/daughter board? I know you can run upto a bar of boost but did not think it took the power that high? If the fueling is fine happy days with that much for now :agree:

I have a HKS EVC 6 boost controller but am trying to work out the plugs on the back of the controller as I have only ever used it as a boost gauge. Have the 2 pin loom (there is also a 3 and 5 pin) 5 pin is for the pc connection to control software so dont need that but am missing the 3 pin connector and can buy them

Anyway seems the 2 pin harness is the scramble loom but mine connects into more loom and gets powered by this and also connects to the solinoid so may be able to use this one as confirming any real diags for the hks stuff is a ball ache

Going to have a play this weekend and connect it up :agree:

Adam L
17-07-2011, 01:05
Yup, totally standard, mate. The only mods to that car were the front mount, straight through exhaust, walbro pump and a bar of boost. Effectively I've gained over 10 mph on the 1/4 mile from a larger turbo and 2psi more boost, it just goes to show how well the Sr20 performs. Not to mention I hit 113mph with a boot full of gear for pod.

Adey aka Ewok

gt2871 or 76 i cant remember? and 555 injectors saw me hitting 118 terminals. i have this feeling youll spend more time sideways than straight lol

Adam L
21-07-2011, 00:11
Just as a side note, the JDM S15 had a foctory output of 247bhp. The engine differences were minimul. A much more free flowing exhaust system, 480cc injectors iirc (compared to the 370cc's on the S14/a's, the rollerbearing turbo (which only aided spool up) and that's all I can think of at the moment.

Duncan Grier
21-07-2011, 09:33
Ok well I def have a free flowing exhaust  and intake for that matter lol, and not longer eunning ac/power steering/large alternator etc

Do you know what the 370cc injectors are good for?

I have avaiable the use of AFR kit with clamp on probe for exhaust so thinking even my discount at Brunters of £50+vat for an hr a cheaper trackday prob makes more sense and can adjust the boost from in the car on the EVC boost controller

Adam did you retain the oe actuator? Had no plans to change mine based on power atm

Have a lot to learn with this car on track so more than happy with about 220bhp, still debating the LSD options and beefing up of axle and diff. Sure it reaches a point of too much power is slower in the bends and bit much on the straights also and just end up snapping shafts all day long :coffee:

Not long now and may get it out on track :wasntme:

I actually had an adjustable actuator on my old car but the preload was only 13psi, and I literally just wacked the bleed valve up as the stock ecu is very forgiving.

Diff options are so open it's rediculous. You can run anything from the whole 200sx range to Skyline. The S15 diff seems to be the most popular but is the most expensive. I can't remember all the roatios as it's really late, but they're easily obtainlable. Funnily enough there was a recent thread on sxoc aboout gearbox options and diffs, with a link to work out top speeds. Mine, with all the correct ratios worked out at 185mph at a 7100rpm rev limit (that's an all stock transmition and clearly power/aero dictates that). The 5 speed is similar but I don't know the ratios.

Lag is the least of your worries, so if you think you're going to be slow in the corners, on a T28, you've got another thing coming.

She picks things up better than I can explain them:scared:

I forgot about the injectors, they're only small, so 270-280bhp should be obtainable on a good map. Personally I'd upgrade just because they're such a low cc.

I hope Duncan doesn't have the gearbox woe's I've just had. I've just driven back from Swindon and 4th gear has smashed itself to peices along with the rest of the box. The noise was so horrendous when it went I actually thought the prop shaft had broken and was grinding on the road:(

Duncan Grier
25-07-2011, 09:18
Thansk for the info :agree:

Sure the gearbox will be fine - not massive power and very light car

Only looking at upto 250bhp atm, need to confirm the diff is ok - its not the 200sx item and live rear axle so they are not used to that hind of power - ratios look ok from my math prior to instal

Ok so those injectors are fine for my starting poin but will upgrade if / when ready for a another spike of power

So for upto 250bhp is the stock act setting ok or does it need a bit more preload?

Cheers

Preload wise, on the sttock actuator, you're a little stuck as they're not adjustable. However, an old trick to lengthen the rod is to place washers undeneath the actuator bracket on the compressor housing so you're putting more tension on the spring.

Yes flans is a similar build but different chassis - my one is a lot smaller and running live rear, Flans is IRS

His is currently running a bit more power also but for now I still have a ? mark over how much the rear diff can take so going to stick with 250bhp for now

Probably very similar in performance as mine weighs a chunck less :cooter: and have full cage so it must be better LOL

Car due to trailer to Scoff over winter for a session to set the boost up and check a few things and then few little jobs (seat / bonnet buldge etc) to have ready for 2012 track season - Anglesea (booked), Blyton Park (RTOC ND) & Spa (Paid for)

Depending on other commitments may pull the engine back out to do a minor refresh (sort a common oil leak) early next year

Will get some pictures when I am at the unit next :agree:
