View Full Version : Problem????
Ok so i tried crankin my engine the other week to test it an it was making a really bad noisr like something grinding/ catching ( dont know what to say to explain it) but i thort id get a new starter.. Just fitted it and its stil doing the same.. And im 100% tht its sitting right  help anyone? Not feeling to strip it all out again :crap:
You probably havent got the locating dowel fitted, the starter wont be positioned correctly because of this and not engaging properly ;)

Is the dowel fitted for the starter motor to locate into?
Is the gearbox earth strap on?
Is the battery fully charged?
Does the dowel sit in the starter or gearbox? Not sure if iv got one and batterys ok.. Havnt got gearbox earth either.. Could these be te problems.. Hopefully is!

if it is the starter grinding (look at ring gear teeth if they are shiny on the top most prob is) even if the dowel is in the right place it still sometimes grinds. make sure dowel is in right place (it will engage in starter and gearbox) then do the starter bolts up slightly and give it a little tap away from the flywheel do the bolts up and see if its sorted.
does anyone have a piccy of the dowell, as im going to be changing my starter the weekend and want to make sure i get it right first.
