View Full Version : NGK racing spark plugs/ gapping?
put new plugs in today engine wants to start but wont, do i need to gap the plugs. every thing is set up ok so can only think thats the problem
dont think they should need gapping, check them yes but as far as adjustment....
your problem rides somewhere else...
:)
dizzy drive gear is fine, leads are correct 1 3 4 2. timing is right, valve clearances are done, vacume hose from aei is on correct place. what else could stop it from starting
tdc sensor....fuel pump relay....
getting spark and fuel, new tdc sensor too and relay is fine.
maybe carb related....
i have never had a problem with plugs, box fresh straight from the pack an starts sharp an crisp...
timed it on compression stroke its sitting perfect too. also cleaned out carb jets and replaced mixture screw also had my carb overhalled by miller.

I am still thinking there is a good chance it could be your plug gaps mate if they are the Ngk bv8x plugs if i have spelt them right then you will need to set the gaps, off the top of my head I can't remember what they need to be I know it does say in the Haynes manual, if you can't find it I'll have a look on Sunday in my book for you mate.it sounds like the gaps are to big if it is trying to start but can't And you need to close them more
Hope this may help you

0.6mm for gtt 0.8mm campus iirc
The spark plug gap wont affect starting, new plugs are close enough. You must have a fault with the carb or ignition.
