Hi,
Finished putting everything back together on the 5 yesterday after changing the head gasket, and turned it over - horrible sound :sad2:
Could you tell me which hole the dowell is supposed to go in on the starting motor - we had two made-up as there weren't any on there, put them in and now it sounds even worse than it did before!
As your looking from the passenger side of the car it is the top left that has the dowel should be in:)

Ah ha - thank you, I think theres one in both holes which would explain everything
are you sure? im certain that the dowel in mine is in the hole nearer the top corner of the starter  im going to have to recheck myself:rolleyes:
does anyone have a picture identifying the dowel location.?

Yep a pic would be really useful :agree:
it's not a gt gearbox, but it's from a 5 so the dowell will be in the same place, it's nearest the top hole that is nearest to the bulkhead-
