Hi
so i have bought a new sandwich plate with a built in thermostat for a new oil cooler. i have a m20 adapter shown in picture...

With the adapter screwed tight there is movement back and forth... is this normal? or am i missing something like a washer?

Your using the big rubber o'ring that goes between the sandwich plate and the block?? Should be tight fit

if fitting on a gt turbo you may need to file the engine mount a little to allow the stat to fit nicely:agree:

Thought I'd revive this thread as I'm havinbg exactly the same issue.

Basically as said when you screw the unions through the sandwich plate there's movement back and forth. I'd imagine a washer should sort it but there's not one within the fitting kit (obviously I could get one!) It's nothing to do with the rubber seal - the movement is only between the unions.

Anyone else had this?

When it bolts to the block it will be ok. Make sure the shorter side of the adaptor screws into the block and the longer side screws into the other part of the adaptor.

Cheers for that I'll give it a go. I suspect it'll still be lose but I'll report back. Seems I need to file away at the engine mount also...

as said there is supposed to be a bit of play so that the centre part can turn when you fit it to the block without the sandwich plate spinning round along with it, the nut is only to hold it in place to make fitting easier

All sorted now - sandwich plate fitted and oil radiator installed also. Once I fitted the unions and sandwich plate there was no movement at all. I did have to cut a chunk out of the N/S engine mount to sit the plate also. :)
