Yo,

Just getting old whitey sorted for going back on the road...

Had a quote from HIC at £260.00 fully comp, value £1500 agreed, 2000 miles legal cover etc etc. At 30 yr's old, fairly std car, full NCB (although not considered as its a clasic policy) no points or accidents, is that a good price?

I think i only paid £350.00 a year for my 2.0 16vT R5 stripped out with cage etc...?

Just thought I'd see what you guys thought or should I go somewhere else?

I'd recommend Peter James insurance. I'm with them and it was about £450 on a classic policy and I'm 21!

Just got my insurance through on my daily driver (E46 328i) and shock of my life, £647 tpft, after them coming up with same spill of insurance has gone up this year and haven't I seen the news, well managed to get it down to £439 for the year which im happy with, lowered mileage from 7k a year to 5k, great when only have to drive 1.6miles to work each day :), and came off a modified insurance company, as previous car I had only the insurance had to be on modified insurance and can now come off that with this car :) next month im due the renault 5 insurance which not looking forward to  hate this time of year

Just searching around more and admiral want £484 for fully comp, direct line wanted 1100  how can it be that much difference, trying a few other places still. Mine used to be under 250 a year but that was on my convertible, miss that car only because it was cheaper to run and insure :)

Fair enough tbh. I only work 1.9 miles, and I had been driving temporarily when it's been proper cold. Normally ride my bike, and just got back into it. It takes me 10 minutes on bike, or 10 minutes in the car, due to traffic and traffic lights, so it makes sense to ride! Plus, it doesn't do the engine / catalytic converters any good not letting the engine warm up properly, and with it being such a big engine, it takes a while!

Always give the car a blast in the evenings and weekends. And then long distance once a month or so when going away for weekend. Would cycle if there was a flat route, no real hills around this whole area apart from the one which is exciting my village, not sure where that came from but its bad enough trying to walk it let alone cycle it lol, well when I say walking its more of stagger back from the night out in the pub  any car short journeys wont do it any good, one main reason why I stopped using my renault 5 gt turbo as a daily driver when I had a 2nd one for a while.

Glad to see so many people have had good quotes from Footman James, our contact there has recently been in touch too, which is nice and NEVER happens with anyone else. Are you all remembering to mention that you are an RTOC member when you request a quote?

Lol, I got insured on a GTT when I was 18 (3 years ago) for £2000! Insurance has gone up so much more recently its ridiculous! It was about £1500 for me at 19 I think.

Now it's £450 on a classic policy, or about £900 on a normal one.

I know should look around really, well did on the BMW and saved that sort of money, but with my renault its takes hours on the phone going through the whole list of changes been made to the car that I normally just stick with the same company year on year, not best way really :(

They should (or at least did with me) ask if the mods have increased the bhp of the car to over 10% more than the standard bhp.

If it is over 10% they will refuse, or state they cannot insure you. How or if they would ever actually prove this in the event of a claim however is for your own opinion.

Oh and FYI my policy with FJ is £114 :agree:

I linked the club to my policy 2-3 year back as well as having on my profile an recommending them. Then a contact apeared on rtoc a while after.

Then it got funny, When i went to re-insure after couple of months in garage with no insurence. My gtt is not old enough to fit in catorgy of classic with it being 1991  :crap:

whatever... i will be back to insure my gtt with them no doubt. Footman James offer good insurence at competitive price.
