ok , i purchased a set of 2nd hand coilovers gaz ones, they have the adjuster on the top, they came with a recipt for a fresh service..

I have about an inch of arch to tyre clearance (not low) , and theres plenty of travel left on them, however when bouncing on the car they seem to barely move and are stupidly stiff, when driving the r5 hitting a cat eye feels like sheer torture.. All i can think is that the spring pressure is far to great..The springs are blue, any thoughts.

Have you turned the adjuster on the top as this will adjust the damping force

indeed , ive gone to both extremes , however ive been told by gaz that should be turned full clockwise, and then back around 2 turns..

Seems to have little effect though

Dj, if you have a good look at the spring the rating is sometimes stamped / marked on the top/base of the spring.

Also try
http://www.dfaulknersprings.com/index.htm

I ordered 275lbs for my Avo's and they are great.

I use the Gaz kit, on its softest setting they are pretty soft, speed bumps are no problem i do think its the spring thats soft and not the damper tho.

cheers j8tro thing im gona need fresh spring, i think these coilovers have come off a car thats silly low , and hes had short soft springs, as you can see imo these appear to be almost coil bound when just sat on the car

also one of my dampening adjusters seems to just turn to infinity and not lock off, going to give gaz a call i think.

As you say looking at the spring in one of your pics and as you say when driving the car they will go coilbound as they are almost there at a standard still, I would say the springs are knackered matey.

Definatly get some new ones in there you something like a 300lbs spring for a nice road car for a track car I would go stiffer personally.

Also the adjuster should get to a point where it can't turn anymore, I would possibly look into getting them rebuilt or just cut my losses and buy a new set of fronts

believe it or not , they have actually had a rebuild in the last 4 months, back to gaz they go :P.

Will order a fresh set of spring, from what ive seen there not to much cash.

Check the length of them too. I know my Avo ones are 7". Yours do look very compressed. Just popped into the garage to take a photo of mine.

Your springs have a lot more coils, mine have 6, i can see at least 8 on yours. Mine FYI are 7" and 275lbs. Don't forget to look at the position of my bottom plate relative to the ride height, however i know the Avo's allow a lot more adjustment as you can see the thread goes quite a way down the damper.

update, whipped the shocks off today, one of the adjusters has no effect and spins to infinity so a call to gaz shocks tomorrow. also the springs are 175lb and appear to be 6inch i think, there loads of adjustment left in them so i think maybe a much longer spring may be in order.

Can you find out from Gaz, or anyone else on here confirm the length of the spring Gaz supply. I wouldn't go higher than 7", but 175lbs is a joke, no wonder you had problems.

ill measure it tomorrow bud, i whipped it off, yea i though 175lb was a little soft, it had a white sticker on though that specified that so i presume its correct.

ive just bought gaz coilovers with red springs, but what springs would people go for with a 2.0 up front instead of the c1j?
