as im now going bigger turbo wise im thinking about doing something with my cam I have all ready up gtaded to an ep cam but I think that now this will my main restriction. Is the only option a reprofile? If so where would be a good place to go? Also what is the best profile to go with a t28?

piper direct would do it , have a word with marky mark, as he is building a hi spec b18f. also have a word with scoff/haz as they have had a good go with this engine and would be able to give you some advis when it comes to cam choice :)

but as a basic rule of thumb get as high lift as poss and little overlap,(you pro already knew that);)

the f7 can go as high as 12mm lift before hydro cam followers need replacing for mechanical
type with shim adjustments

The lifters on these are mechanical as they are adjusted by shims arnt they? So does that mean its poss to go quite high:D

depends on how much lift there is at the mo i suppose:scratch: and how well the springs and collets handle more lift:scratch:,

might have to get new springs made up , or send one to piper and see if they can match it with something of another car , seem to remember somebody saying ford sierra valve springs ...ages ago...mmm worth a try i suppose:ashamed:

what are you aiming for bhp wise ?:)

HAndy

why not fit bigger inlet valves and flow the ports/ manifold not cheap but will all help:cool:

HAndy

ferrea forged exhaust valves in mine , not cheap though was about £22 each valve:(

but on the plus you only have 8 to buy:laugh:

if your thinking of a 1 off cam , might as well stuck the f7 in there works out more bhp for less £ in the long run:confused:

You may have to be spending some money to get there, I don't think Haz even made it to there, Marky Mark may do but we'll have to see.
Should have done the F7 conversion if you wanted 250+ :cooter:

I paid £150 for a re profile and £50 for shims from piper, they told me cam would be a 279 not enough on it to make a 285.

Come on. 250 is easy with a C1j let alone the B18. you'd only need a 16v engine if you want LOADS of power and can afford/fit the gbox to handle it.

In the old days some people thought that the carb provided a bottle neck and that power over 225bhp wasnt achievable?

This was suposed to be cheap reliable power:laugh: 250 is now the bench mark:D

I am in the same boat as you, must be someone that can make a good cam for a b18FT

No doubt many places can make them but unless it was a big group buy costs would be silly:eek:

If everyone is interested in a group buy cam for the B18FT then i could look into it, i have a mass batch of cams here which could use to get them ground.

Question is what sort of cam would people like, all out power or good road cam?

SCHWARTZ
07-01-2011, 17:37
Thats going to be the main problem as everyone will no doubt want different specs. I would like a cam for some decent power but would be using it on the road so something between the two, nearer to the power end of the scale tho:D

HAndy
07-01-2011, 17:48
go for all out power :D :burnrubber:

if they can grind standard cam to a 279 profile, is'nt thats plenty for a street use turbo application.

maybe ,we should concentrate on a group uprated gearbox buy to handle all the ftlb that all these f series turbo engines are going to push out

SCHWARTZ

All out power cams and super strong gearboxes it is then:D

The guys at piper were really great with me. Im sure if you could get 5-10 cams done, there must be some discount.

Im getting my car on the r/r early this year, so might give an idea of power to be had with just minor mods and a cam in :)
