just a quick one, what would be the legal standing on say removing the complete roof, and screen from a r5?

would it need a screen to be legal, aerial atom doesn't :agree:

also, how would you go about bracing it?

Areil atom was designed without a roof or screen, R5 wasn't.....

screen needs to be a car in order for it to be on the road a convirtable would be you limit

a roll cage would do it and a helmet :agree: at worst a wind deflector like the caterham r500's

wind deflector sounds cool, obviously a helmet would be in order too, with visor :p

just think it'd be a cool project to make a 'speedster' :smokin:

I would always want a roll loop at the very least as I would want my head to be squashed if I accidentally rolled it :)

a sva or whatever they call it now , would have to be taken, and you would need proof that the work/modfication has been carried out by a competent person :crap:

which kind of leaves you mr B by the road side pi##ing in the wind:laugh::laugh:

Have you had yours SVA'd?

HAndy

no:( spoke to dvla about it , got the all clear:confused:
did'nt seem to bothered about the engine being swapped from the front to the back:scratch:

according to vosa/dvla only modifications that alter the body from its original shape /size
ie making a 2 door car to a 4 door car,
cutting and extending body floor pan, or changing the shape /structure etc etc

pretty sure cutting of a car roof is going to come under that also:D

I wanted to make a GTT pick up, I even did drawings to work out what it would look like:wasntme:

went through the mot ok on that side of things, as the car was the same as as a normal 5 but with a subframe /suppension turrets welded in the back:laugh: the mot inspector went round it all, came out and said nice job, well done!!!:cool:

did you have to do yours Andy?

Me and Haz did a roof swap on a van shell a few years ago. We fitted the roof, door pillars from a GT onto the van shell. Removed the bulk of the van and shut it up like a pick up. It was quite a cool looking thing, unfortunately it didn't progress past a bare shell. Haz may have some pictures somewhere or other :)

ive thought about doing a roof chop on my 5, but hot rod style with the front lower than the rear, and keeping a screen.
i think it would loof cool.
any1 able to photoshop it for me?

im sure i remember a mk2 golf having this done back in the day, a dark green/grey/black/blue car???

probably not worth the money/hassle tho.
better off spending my time money getting the car working again lol
