Im looking to upgrade my brakes next year for my days out on track.

I have searched on here with all the opinions on larger disks :scared:.

Most people seem to agree standard disks and ds2500 pads in will do the job, then others saying bigger brakes are so much better.

Anyway i have decided to run a 16" road wheel and 15" for the track im going to ditch the 13" speedlines i was going to use. So now bigger brakes are an option.

I have spoke to a few members regarding the best option and the r 21txi disks seem to be popular, along with running better pads and calipers extenders.

Do i just buy these from gsf etc anyone got a part number?

Or is there a more preferred bigger brake kit. Im not scrimping and saving but then also dont want to buy a brand new high spec set up. Maybe something of the 172 will that work?

I guess i just buy standard disks for the back or is there a uprated disk i should be looking for.

The car at the moment had drilled and vented with green stuff pads they are all pretty rusted up now so need to replace for next year.

I also need a rear drivers side caliper as the bleed nipple is snapped and its not worth me trying to drill it out, anyone got one?

Do any of the members make or have some caliper extenders to?

Advice would be great :)

clio valver discs and callipers is what I got. Yet to fit them but should do the job nicely.

what size are they over standard and do they all just bolt together? Do the hubs need changing to?

Clio and R5 calipers are the same.
You just need clio 16v discs and pad carriers.

Rather that, than one of the 'larger discs are a must' fanboys  ;)

Seriously though, the o.e setup with decent pads are more than adequate, even on sunny trackdays. In one instance a good few years back, I think at Donington, I was literally melting paint off the front wheels, but had no brake fade problems whatsoever.

For ref', I've never ran anything else bar the aforementioned setup on all the GTT's I've owned.

If you want to make the std brakes better, throw all your excess interior out to make the car lighter and that will be far better than any disc upgrade! :D

mart never been in a gt on track so im taking onbord what you are saying.

Have you been or driven a gt with a bigger brake set up on track to compare to your own cars?

Remember in running the volvo engine so im guessing a bit more weight up front to stop.

285 discs and ds250 pads good
285 discs and four pots even better , you are running a f series with a bit more weight to stop anyway, and once youve binned that tiny t2 and put on a proper blower and start knocking on the door of 280 bhp you will need them 4 pots:D

:agree:, gotta say, im with mart on this , my runaround gtt is 210bhp and im taking the willy wheels off an the bigger discs and putting a set of cup rims on with these very pads..:), never had any probs with this set on the cup on track..even when i upped the boost..:D.

i used wilwood midilite with some 285mm/ren txi disc's,
they are well made ,well priced, have a fast pad change system built in,which makes pad change that much easier , no need to mess about as pads can be removed from top of caliper with every thing left in place:cool: i had some billet brackets made to suit the disc also as the hi spec system uses a funny offset , which makes things expensive if they need replacing:crap:

O.e sized discs will be good enough with proper pads at your power level Phil, they stop the van on track no problems, its a bit of a heavyweight compared to most gtt's too;)

When braking down from over a ton the standard gt brakes are poo. If you want proper stopping power get a decent set of four pot calipers. I suppose it all depends on how hard you drive the car, ds2500 are a decent pad for a fast road car but are no match for a proper ds 3000 track pad.

these guys dont use big brakes an larger wheels-

http://www.mini7.co.uk/

think big brakes imo are not needed an the oe speedlines/cups are way better as you get more feedback..:agree:

Just avoid EBC, I've had two sets of redsh1t ceramics, they were fine at first and seemed ok on track initially but once a third worn or more they went to bits. I replaced the first set as I had them replaced cheap after complaining. i melted my last set of them at the Smetharpe rally chasing an Aston Dbr9... Just changed over to DS3000 fronts but haven't tested them yet. I've written war and peice on another thread, so has Mart lol, lots of experience on this issue on the boards with different pads and Oe size. I have found that rallying is a lot harder on brakes than circuit though, I seem to have brake jinx though...!

As long as all the braking components are in good servicable condition, all you'll need is some decent pads - i.e Ferodo DS2500.

I'm hitting pretty high speeds on the back straight at Aintee (100+ MPH) with no fade what so ever in the braking zone...... :)

Was the wilwood kit for the gt or another car, my bro has a set sitting in his garage of his mk3 escort.

Where were those extenders bought from rally art to?

is that the price for the pair or per item?

So i need some txi disks, caliper extenders, universal mounts, ds2500 pads and some wilwood calipers for the same set up?

you will need the wilwood calipers , extender brackets, 21 txi discs, pads, and 2 x m10x 1.5mm pitch cap headbolts to fix the calipers to the the brackets , and use your existing o.e bolts to fix the extender bracket to hub(m12 bolts):)

or a set of pug 406 v6 coupe brembo 4pots fit (lug mounted) with a few washers for spacers to clear disc, so ive read on another forum

got a willwood catalogue somewhere:scratch: an remember reading about no dust seals...
does that cover all the calipers in there range or just a specific?
:)

HAndy

thats why i choose the wilwood midilite ,as its got dust seals and can take upto 300mm disc :) and has the anti squeal system built in also:p

Matt, have you got the 255mm disc Wilwood kit? They were designed to fit under the std 13" wheels. I tried to find out some info on the kit and Wilwood told me that they never made that kit and that a lot of their distributers make their own kits using Wilwood calipers.

Matt@CodeRedMotorsports

The ones I have just about fit under 15" Clio 7x15 wheels, if I can find a part no I'll post it up.
