ok , just a quick on, my mrs has a rabbit, which yesterday was stone cold and trouble breathing, took it to the vets, who gave it 7 steroid jabs and kept it in..

thing im worried about is how much is that going to cost.. i know a hamster cost her £80 and that just had a jab and was kept in and died in teh end..

Worried about £200+ bills ,whats the score if you just tell them straight theres no chance you can afford that ?

You need to speak to the vet, they shouldnt give the animal any medication/treatment unless they have discussed prices/outcomes first.... you can set a max bill aswell...

Never get a horse tho, myself and charlotte have had bills of over £5k (& thats after insurance has paid out!!) on more than one occassion in the last 18months...

think the vets play on it a bit,a mate of mine had a cat an it was given jabs etc an kept in to be 'monitored',but my mate was having none of it an took it home to monitor it himself,a risk maybe but turned out ok.......

ah nah , this vet just seems to do whatever.. and then give you a stonking bill, i just said to the mrs if its over £100 , then just argue the toss and tell them you cant afford it and that they should of informed you how stupidly much they were going to charge.

are we on about a rabbit here  surely £200 is way over the odds for a bill by far
didnt they say what the bill would likely to be before they done anything

hehe yea , its nota small one,

I bloody hate vets the piss takin barstards.. i always feel that they just play on the fact that the owners are very attached, and they just ramp up the bill without advising. Then at the end the little fat woman behind reception makes it sound like its a typical £15 check up , but instead says £358 or some silly figure.

I guess we now just waittttt

On a sensible note, cool rabbit Damian, :agree: always wanted a house rabbit, but they make a mess of everything.

Do you not have insurance? We have all our pets insured and have always done alright on the claims, you do still have to pay upfront but they are good about getting the money back quick, there is an excess but well worth it.
You could just say we don't have the money to pay and offer what you can afford. If they are any kind of pet lover they will keep you out.
Good luck.

djinuk
21-12-2010, 10:42
nope, not insured , silly really, i just dont do pets full stop, but the mrs has a few at hers, i guess we will see what the bills gona cost, if its silly will just see what they can do, surely being that its like 5 days from xmas you would think if it was going to be silly high they would maybe pre warn.
