not a lot of info to go on...

Had the juddering problem on the wifes old 106 gti after fitting a new clutch. There was a problem with the clutch cover as you let the clutch out and the release baring touched onto the fingers it juddered like mad. When I took it appart the bearing had nearly worn through the end of the fingers

Thing is you would still get this problem if you tried to set off in 2nd but it wasn't as obvious on gear changes.

Never had it popping out of gear though.

Like has been mentioned is it a paddle clutch?

If you have gears that are ok then the diff will be fine. all gears run through the diff.
Sounds like the springs in your clutch plate are goosed, popping out of gear is a lil strange tho, check engine movement as you start to engage the clutch, if theres alot of movement it could pull/push on the linkage popping it out of gear.

I had the exact same symptoms on my mk1 r5, it use to judder violently in first gear then pop out of gear, but was ok in all other gear. It turned out to be the engine mount.
