So, my mate's 2005 182 Cup has died after 2 days of ownership. I've not had a chance to look over the car (being 6000 miles away), but snapped cambelt suspected..

Does anyone know of a 182 lump for sale we can drop in? Or where the best place to go looking is?

Are there any differences apart from the ECU between the 172 and 182 engine?

In terms of cost/ benefit is it worth rebuilding the engine (hard to say without seeing damage I guess..)

Any suggestions/ thoughts much appreciated!

Cheers folks :agree:

:crap: not good, best place prob for Clio sport F4r lump would be prob be the chavtastic site www.cliosport.net (http://www.cliosport.net) or even ebay for an engine, you can use any 172 or 182 lump in your mates car, as you only need the head and block bolted together as one, everything else you can just swap over from your mate's 182.

If your mate is handy with spanners and has a reasonable amount of room, I'd recomend buying an accident damaged one to break. The bits on them fetch a fair bit, and you would potentially be able to make a profit and get a free engine

A company you could maybe call is Cit-Ren based near Norwich, they seem to have a few Clio 172/182 parts

I don't think that's quite right, as far as I know a 182 plenum won't fit a 172 engine, so if you get a 172 engine make sure you also get a 172 plenum for a FBW throttle.

Ops :ashamed: I always thought the pleniums were the same fitment pattern for 172 & 182 other than the ICV fitment and throttle body type?? I know the exhaust manifold's are and ecu's slightly different to be honest I am only going by what I remember seeing a few years back now:laugh:

I'm not 100%, but AFAIK it's down to differences in the cam cover breather, no biggie to sort the right bits, but a pain in the butt if you're on a tight schedule and expecting it to be plain sailing.

they dont usually do any more damage than bend the valves and perhaps oval the guides, personally i'd rebuild it. If its worn the guides its best to get new ones pressed in or ull end up spending lots on oil/lamda sensors and cats.

longs you use the correct/matching upper inlet manifold all should be fine

Thanks gangsters.

We will take a look at it before deciding to replace or rebuild. Do we know of anyone who would do a good job if it did need a basic rebuild?

Cheers, TK
