I recon Russ B would be one of the longest serving members

Mart

Current members wise, according to the database anyway (assuming that the 'join dates' are correct), Russ is the longest serving rtoc'er, followed by another old fart...

i've owned my 5gtt for around 10 years and been a member for around the same time i guess, maybe slightly less. mine probably says later due to the server falling over and the host company heading for the hills

How did you manage that?

there exists a copy of the old website running in a dark corner of the rtoc server. currently it's database server is switched off to conserve resources but it can be switched on as and when it's required.

Funny thing is I don't ever remember there being a forum in 98 when we had gtturbo.org ? I know there was, somewhere, that mark phillips ran. Or maybe I just didn't spend long enough looking for it since I was on 14k4 dialup and it was costing a sh1t load to surf :D

It was all done by post then fella! :D.....I used to love waiting for the wastegate/event info etc to pop through the door! The old chat page (where I first met Sparkie and Co) was fantastic. So simple yet so brilliant!:agree:

I remember Wastegate, although it was dying off when i joined the old GTTOC, i think i still have my original 'joining pack' stuff somewhere:laugh: keyring, tax disk holder and members card i think? Might even still be using the tax disk holder - can't remember. I wonder how may 5's still have them in the front window :smokin:

Aii, that old chat page was run by some crazy Geordie called Steve. No threads, just one long continuous stream of posts. Checking the day's postings after getting home from work used to take an eternity :D

If I remember rightly, Steve pulled the plug on the website due to Roly (GTT) threatening to sue him over remarks made about one of GTT's big brake kits failing & killing the driver in the process.

Mark Phillips was on the scene at the time, knew a bit about creating websites, and thus gtturbo.org was born from the leftovers.

The rest, as they say, is history... [/cliché] :D

Theres a lot more old skool members than the current site lets on. Not everyone has bothered to have their join dates set. I'm a bit of a cheat because my membership was 1998-2000 and then I didn't renew again until 2002 when I'd noticed there was a propper forum on the go. I missed the whole gttoc to rtoc tranformation :cartman:

Didn't leave as such - Was just inbetween owning GTT's, mainly thanks to the cr8p I went through with Cu*tler with my first GTT, hence wasn't as active in the club for that period.
