Just taken the dash out of my 5. I hope i'm not the only one to find it a real pain in the arse!!! It's the first one i've ever taken out of a 5 so i knew it wouldn't be a quick job but i found some of the wiring loom a nightmare to get to. I broke a few bits too, but to be honest i wasn't that carefull with it as i'm getting another dash! Putting the new one in will be much easier now i've done it once but please tell others have found it as painfull as me!!!!!!

I have the pleasure of putting mine back in :( less a few electrical wires for electric windows, stereo, central locking etc... its all about the weight saving. ;)

Done loads now. They are not hard, just a timely job. Take your time and label bits you are not sure on. Or even get the camera out and snap away each time remove a bit.

Good luck

All i can say is take your time. I labelled everything as i took it off. My troubles were added to as some numpty had re-wired the loom to the ignition barrell and put some wires around the steering colomn and some through the dash around the colomn meaning i had to either cut the loom or brake the dash to get it off.:sad2:

when i done mine i thought it was well easy, didnt label anything as i found that most/all switches only go in 1 place anyway, all went back no probs

Yeah your right m8, i did notice that as i was doing it but it made me feel a bit better to label it all:) I have sleepless nights sometimes worrying about putting the car back together:scratch:

Its not the worst dash ive removed, but........... deffinettly the worst for extremely dodgy previous owner bodge repairs. :sad2:

I've done it a few times now and I would say dodgiest thing about it, is the fact that plastic is 20+ years old now and can be very brittle and crack quite easily. Take your time and be patient with the clips.

Haha, as said the best thing to do is label everything. I didnt and it took me a while to get it all back together... Now have a stupid issue though that when I pull my cigarette ashtray out my lights come on haha... Nightmare...

it took me about 30 mis to get mine 99% of the way out then 2hr looking how to get the clips off that hold the top in  ashy then told me "aarrhhh just pop a screwdriver in the vents and she will come straight out" 5 mins and it was out, we all have to learn :ashamed:

TBH, I've done it a few times (removed and installed), and honestly didn't find it that hard. I had another person to help though... I imagine it would be a lot harder on your own.

Why would people do it any other way? Considering the loom is clipped to the dash in the first place
