New nuts a bolts

Bit of help please.

I'm wanting new nuts and bolts for my engine, iv had a few things powder coated and don't want to put rusty old bolts back on.

Iv herd Renault charge a lot?

What I'm wanting them for is, timing chain cover, crank pulley, engine mounts, brackets round the carb, and for the rad fan bracket, could a diy store be up for the job?!

yup, i got loads of allen head s/s ones for pennies :agree:

Take the bolts you want to replace to a local bolt shop/fasteners, they will be able to sort you out with new stainless/zinc plated.

We should add a list to this thread of what size bolts are for what as it may be handy for others: I'll get the ball rolling


M6 x 1.25 - Cylinder head blanking plate,
M6 x various lengths water pump bolts,
M6 x various lengths depends on carb top type - Carb lobster bolts (replace the 3 x studs),
M8 - Inlet manifold one way valve replacement,
M10 - Head bolts,


Not a bolt but may be handy for others
M14 x 1.25 Helicoil Type Spark Plug insert (Gtt head)

I wouldnt like to to attach my crank pulley wheel with a diy shop bolt. Arnt the genuine bolts made to withstand different stresses. I would stick to genuine mate for anything that is under any form of stress or an important engine part as for covers an anything else go for stainless if you can get them.

thats the one...no flaffing around...get some nice tarty stainless washers whilst your there to,thats what i done....

do a goggle search on zinc plating..but in the long run it will start to corrode,theres many types of methods of plating different thickness etc,you get what you pay for,stainless nuts an bolts are not as expensive as you may think,good cheap upgrade.

If you've got any bolts that are still yellow in places that's the Zinc & Colour (Yellow) plating that's still on them. Some people call it Zinc Passivating :niceone:

Put all your rusty bolts in some diesel and it will remove the rust.

Rememer to put something like duralac on ure stainless bolts when going into the Ali head
