hey all im having trouble with getting a c1j to produce any boost.

standard engine
alloy standard sized i/c
d7 drag turbo ( from gt tuning brand new)
new plugs leads rotor and cap
standard carb freshly built 1.2 mm main 0.9 air corector
samco's all new

NO dump valves
a known working aei
cup mod
scorpion exhaust

i can get a slight chatter from the turbo at about 6 k
this is in neutral and on the road

done a comp check
120 psi
110 psi
120 psi
120 psi

piston 2 isnt drasticly down but obviously worse then the other 3

no way of testing afrs in this car either but does smell rather rich

whats next ?

Boost leak ???

Rather low compression results.:scratch:Maybe boost leak as kris says. Wastegate staying open? Try with the actuator vacum pipe off, take it easy though as you cant tell what the engine is fueling.:scared:

Nope no boost leaks all pipe wrk is brand new out the packet along with I/c
Had the turbo off, penny washer is in tact.
Actuator pre-load is set to max (just for testing)

Got me really stumped

is throttle cable adjusted properly? is it opening throttle fully?

also are tappets ok? if they are too tight could affect compression

How did you test for boost leaks?

when you say "any boost" do you mean that it is making no boost at all?
Does it drive like it has no boost ie like a milk float? if not is your gauge plumbed in correctly without a leak.

Assuming that your gauge is working and its not registering any boost at all then your brand new turbo is a dud.

Russle I had this convo over the Fone with haz. Wipped off the turbo and exhaust housing and all looked ok, but did notice a crack in it. Gona try a t2 on it and see wat happens.
Will post specs of turbo up in a min. As I say it's classed as D7 drag turbo on gt tunings web site.

if its a "drag" turbo im guessing its big and dosnt make any boost till quite high up the rev range with the engine under load. Did you test the boost circuit with a compressor?

May have found the cause for this.
The exhaust housing has a major crack in it
And the gap between the exhaust wheel
And the housing is oval, and quite big.

Also only 3 straight push rods

ah, not so good, bent pushrods do hold tings up abit:(
