hi just been searching for msm cam but nothing found, could someone tell me what an msm cam is , i know its something to do with a 285 cam but whats actually different and what are the advantages/disadvantages, and where do you get them from? also what is the difference in the piper 285 and 300 cam on the website it states ones a track cam and one a rally cam and the durations etc are different but what does this change about the way the engine revs? thanks

i think the msm cam was re profiled to a 293 degrees instead of a 285 may take you quite a while to find one but may be worth a chat with big jim racing as i think he had something to do with these cams

msm, was a piper 285 @110deg.
piper then changed their original piper 285 @112deg to the same spec as the msm one.
this gave slightly more overlap/scavenging.

the piper 285 is a punchy cam, whereas the piper 300 have a longer flatter torque curve - ideal for tracks.......

Is the 285 a good choice for road & track use then supposed to a 300 mainly for track?

Wouldn't a long flat torque curve be better for the road and not so important for the track?

This may have become the case but original spec was 108deg

interesting, makes you wonder who he talked to at the time.....

i know i did a cam called a 1011@108deg around that time, which was basically a piper 300 duration with a piper 285's lift......
