Arrggggghhhhhh just tried to put the heater on in my 5 and guess what it don't work OMG i can't believe it plus it's not something you check for when buying a car is it??? Well it bloody well is now!!!!!!! I really hope it's just a fuse i'll look tomorrow but if not i have just been reading up on it and it dont sound good!!!!!!:mad::mad::sad2::sad2::cry::cry:

Plus its cold as hell out there!!!!

'cept what i said isn't right, a few years ago someone would have had a link to 'broken' on wikipedia posted up by now.

Expand on 'don't work' would have been better :geek:

What Stu says - the cntre vents on 5's ONLY blow cold.

Come on timmy this is my 6th R5 but thanks tho all the same!!!:D:D

you've probably seen the other thread.......

if the fuse is okay then take the fan unit out, check and clean the connections, check it spins without binding etc, then if still no joy sod the bucket of oil thing, just get down the scrappy for another one, same on all R5's :)

I allways thought mine was faulty, as the centre just blowcold, so even from the factory they never blew hot?

fetch the fan out of the bulkhead, put 12v directly to the 2 spade contacts (while holding the motor tightly!!) and see if it spins. If it doesn't then the motor is ofcourse foobar.

If the motor works then the fault could be poor wiring to/from the heater box and heater controls (fetch them out of the dashboard and examine the rotary speed switch).

If the wiring and speed switch look/check out OK then I fear your problem will be the resistors that control the speed. they live inside the heater box !! you will not get them out easilly. If this is the case then you either swap the heater box for a working one or wire the speed switch directly to the fan motor - but ofcourse you will have no speed control - it will be all or nothing.

Ignition on.
Blower set to 'on'
get under the bonnet, find the power lead and see if there's power going to the fan. If there is, your motor is gone. If there isnt, trace the wire back (and the earth) and find the fault.

hate to be a smarty pants annoying spod type but if you measure the voltage with the fan removed (the only way since the fan is otherwise in the way) then you may read 12v even when the wiring is poor or faulty. often the voltage only vanishes once there is a load (motor) connected - showing resistance (a poor connection) somewhere. :D
