Hi guys, this has only happened twice to me, but the car's cut out and wouldn't turn back on again for five minutes or so. I think both times it's been when I've been slowing down, i.e. first time coming to the end of a road and second time slowing down to let a car pass.

It seems really close to coming on but just won't kick in, but after a few minutes and some throttle and it's back, any idea what could be causing this? Thanks.

possibly try checking your engine/ gearbox earths , an old five of mine did this , i ran an earth strap from the box to the scuttle area, solved it straight away, may not be the case though , just a thought.

are you talking electrical or a jerky loss off fuel feeling where you keep the throttle in but it just carries on to conk out?

No no not at all, it's a really smooth cut out lol. I don't even notice it's done it until I go to pull off...

Could be very possible that its an earth strap fault. Happened to me mate in an escort rs turbo exactly the same as your describing, he hadnt secured the battery down properly and when going around a right hand corner the battery would slide and touch the bonnet hinge causing massive short circuit and car would just die without any warning. Deffo check earth straps are tight and that they actually have a good earth.

easy to rule out the earth, grab one from halfords or if you have a spare + to starter cable (the big one) slap that on to the block and chassis..

have a butchers at the battery, those terminal claps are dog sh1t these days and slip about like soap at showertime down the gym..:scared:

I did have the battery out recently on a trickle charger as it goes, and it's always a bitch to get back in place. I'll try and make sure it's more secure in future :agree:

I'm really not  seriously considered whacking it up for sale a few times... at least I've got a new petrol tank on and fixed the sunroof leak now.
