New poster! (less than 10 posts)

well after 5 years of being off the road the old girl actualy started today. spent 2 days trying to get her back to life, seized fuel pump, suspect fuel relay etc etc.

still plenty to do but a major stepping stone out of the way.

Just a few questions,

when i turn the ignition on should the fuel pump start straight away and continue running? ( with the relay in place this currently does not happen, linked out relay and pump comes on).

the choke light stays on whether its up or down? is this an earthing fault? the light goes off when i turn the headlights on.

what is she supposed to idle at. roughly?

sorry for all the questions but im over the moon.....:):):)

About fricking time mate ;)

1. No... the pump will only engage when it recieves a signal from the TDC sensor - i.e, when you're cranking/car is running

2. Choke light should go out when not in use - check the clamp on the carb, you may have set it too tight.

3. Idle speed should be circa 800rpm

Happy days mate, get some pics up.:)

Factory idle speed is 650+/- 50rpm.

My bad. Where the hell did I get 800 from? Modern cars I guess.

cheers tim, the choke cable aint too tight as it works fine without sticking and works also when starting from cold and/or hot.

Mine's set at 900... didn't even know the factory setting is that low! I'll try lowering it tomorrow... see how it sounds and runs ;)

Yeh it will depend on the car, and how often it has been ran.
Mine was sat for 4 years when i bought it.
Its currently running at 900
