ok it is as bad as it sounds, i am running the b18ft in my clio rsi, its running 10psi with the standard gearbox mount, standard upper mount and a solid dogbone mount. 2 weeks ago i think the bolts in the top mount worked there way loose and the engine was found with one bent bolt out of the three holding it up, after closer inspection the cam pulley and bolt had been wearing away the mount whilst it was on the funny angle. the cam pulley bolt has worn down abit.

After drilling the snapped bolts out, i refitted the mount with slightly shorter bolts approx 7mm shorter (all i had at time) with locktight blue. they still went in atleast 7 turns. i kept checking the mount and it was always flush up to the engine, but never checked wether the bolts where tight :(

tonight i was going round a corner and as i put power on i heard a snap as tho a drive shaft had snapped and then cudnt select gears properly or drive it. i opened the bonnet and the upper engine mount looks as tho its ripped the bolts out cracking the cylinder head of the upper bolt, as its external and probably the weakest.

i dont have a clue wat im doing wrong as the bolts always got tightened up well. whilst driving after the first snap i did notice a mibration above 4k, i think this cud be the cam pulley bolt but really not sure.

help or advice please, i also need a cylinder head if any one has one

thanks
adam

How about converting it to 5 gt engine mounts, mount it at the base rather then hang the engine.

mark, i would be interested to know what is needed to convert it to the 5 mounts as i wouldnt have to replace the head then, well hopefully. the engine is literally sitting on the subrame :( my sister is a curse. when i started the conversion she said will the engine not fall out. in responce i said 'It's impossible' DAMN

What you will need is a complete mount for the front and rear of the gearbox (mount and bracket) and you'll need a Renault 5 GTX front bracket and 5 gt turbo engine mount. Using the GTX bracket means it'll bolt straight to the block.

Only mod you'll have to do is drill a new hole in the frame on the front passenger side of the subframe so you can bolt the mount to the frame.

Speak to Mike ('phase 1 16v turbo' on here) he will be alble to source you good used/new items to do it mate.

Nice work Adam.:agree::wasntme:

Were they the original bolts that came with the volvo or did you replace them?

Thats an awful lot of pressure on those bolts in the head, the thread holes aren't very deep are they.

concidering that is the only mount on that side of the engine i do think this mount has a hard life lol. im planning on running the 5gt mounts aswell as this top one for added security when i source the other mounts and get it back on the road

You won't need the top mount too, the 5 gt mounts will do fine on there own.

The engine was never designed to be hung (sits on mounts in the volvo) so could be a reason why it didn't last long on the original mounts.
