View Full Version : Testing the starter motor off the car????
Hey chaps!
Whats the correct procedure for testing a starter motor of the car and just using a battery to make it spin?? Which parts do I need to put to earth and which do I put the positive to??
Forgot to mention I wish to know for the gt turbo starter :)
Power to the large threaded terminal as well as to the solenoid tab. I think the motor grounds itself through it's housing where it attaches to the gearbox.

Safest way is in a bench vice, clamp it in nice and tight by the mounting holes so you can easily access the terminals.
Use a set of jump leads, connect the earth to the vice and use the positive to energise the terminals on the starter solenoid
