English is not my motherlanguage, so I have to ask:

could you explain; is the center plate just the plate without friction surfaces or are you talking about "full" clutch plate?

5teve L

Just the centre plate Harri, 4 paddle, no outside cover or release bearing.

At what point is this clutch plate required; approximately when does the Valeo (green box) setup start to slip?

If I were running a full T25 and Piper285 cam type setup at 1.6bar would I be borderline ok with the normal Valeo clutch?

How does this plate hold up in normal road use (wear and ease of use)?

The volvo is prob ok for 1.5 bar manifold for quite a while if you don't use drag tyres Dave, mine lasted a few thousand miles with 1.5 bar (& a few times at 1.7) on a low comp engine & a few pod days/normal road use, didn't slip when I took it out, I only went to an AP plate as I was upping the boost & using drag tyres at pod (20 plus runs with no slip).

I found the AP ok for road use (albeit about 2k miles) although the wife said she hated it compared to her standard clutch.

Depends on what you plan on doing with the car & what sort of power you hope to get out of it, if you think you will be going up to & over 220lbft I'd just go with a paddle plate & volvo cover from the off TBH.

is that without pressure plate?

Matt Cole

Yes mate, it is a 6 plate paddle, friction plate only. I use the valeo pressure plate. No issues with 260 odd ft/lb of torque!

oh ok looks like i will have to pay the £180 and maybe get a new pressure plate then.

SCHWARTZ
14-02-2011, 19:48
is it better to use a stronger pressure plate with these friction plates? or will it not make much difference? I cant see my lump making any more than 230bhp so dosnt need to be amazing. Would at least getting a new standard pressure plate help or do they not wear out really?

TrixNFlix
14-02-2011, 19:52
I was just told to use the standard pressure plate used in the valeo green box kit.

I know this thread is old but was wondering if these are the best plates to use as i think my clutch is beginning to slip .... any surefire way to check ???

Who or where is the best place at the moment to buy them from ???

Thanks.
