View Full Version : longer track rod ends
i am after a pair of track rod ends for a 5 , slightly longer than the standard ones
(about 10-15mm longer thread )
any ideas muchos appreciated .
Not track rod ends but Clio williams have longer track rods.
Most places will not sell you the correct ones. Clio 16v track rods are shorter. I went to Renault bit obviously had to pay their prices. I think around £70 the pair.
i know what you mean , the same as 19 16v rods .
but i dont really fancy changing the rods again ,pita of a job :disagree:
I havn't come across any longer ones buddy. It's done in the rods as lewis says.
In situ it might be a pain on the bench it's easy. This for your 9?

Anyone got the measurements and thread size for both clio and williams track rods?
I am after longer ones for my megane and wondered if these will fit.
i have a spare 19 16v rod and its longer than the bog standard R9/11 one
and same length as the r9 t and r9 gtx .
so the rods are allready as long as they get on the r9 gtx rack i am using ,i will try to check more accurately and see how much thread is going into the rod from the rod end once all alligned on a laser tracker .
at the moment i am modifying some shock absorbers with 15mm extended holes
to bolt to the hub , than getting 1.6 megane shafts (thats where the subframe came off)
which are 15mm longer than r9 ones .
can someone confirm above sounds right pls ??
i used the r19 track rod ends which are around 10-15mm longer to take up the
extra 15 mm on the new track . however where it bolts to the hub is off center on
these and they are handed opposed to the ones on R5 and 9 . i believe this is due to
extra caster on the R19 .
not sure these will give me problems as i am using standard r9 wishbones

now after everything is extended 15 mm (driveshafts ,track rod ends , shock to hub mountings , wishbones pushed out 15mm )
i took the car for a laser tracking , wheels are facing straight ahead now however
my camber is
passenger side = half a degree neg camber
driver side = 0.35 of a degree positive camber
looking at the screen on the tracking equipment , the driver side reading only
just goes in to the red zone . i have allready ordered camber correction bolts
and i am going to get this fixed . any ideas what sort of camber i should get them set up to , for road use ??
also i have been told they cant see the caster on this machine they are using .
where can i get this looked at ??

the offset will be to clear the wheels on lock

hi mate ,do you mean so that the wheels dont hit the track rod ends ??
got a pair of 19 16v wishbones in front of me here ,they seem to positioning
the ball joints towards the front of the car more as well .
if i remember correctly , ball joints sit central on standard r9 wishbones .
do you reckon i have to use the 19 wishbones to match the track rod ends ?

yep that.
Use whichever wishbones fit best.

lol ,they both fit fine :)
but i imagine 19 ones will support caster which is for better
cornering right ?
