Renault are going to be changing cambelts only, no kit??????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????
stupidity. we had the head of renault aftermarket sales worldwide come visit us a few months ago, he asked us what we thought of this idea, we told them we wouldnt warranty a cambelt change without a full kit. Can't believe they have gone ahead with this idea. My uncle in renault liverpool had to fit a belt to a clio when the kit only cost £20 more, they insisted on not fitting the kit. crazy.

I guess it depends on the statistics for failure. I took off my tensioners / rollers etc on the f4rt engine to do a belt and they looked spot on with no play / noise evident. I would maybe go with renault on the belt but extend the ancilliaries to be changed at the second belt change.

I guess they need to increase the waranty period to compete with the likes of vauxhall?

i work for mazda/kia dealer. we always change just the belts and only change tensioners and rollers if there needed. i suppose changing them all at once makes sence though cause its sods law if you dont change them, give it a few months and it'll need them, and if the belts removed then its best to replace it.

To be honest its more often waterpumps, belts and tensioners that fail, the guide rollers are usually ok. Still kits dont cost alot and for the extra money i say full kit everytime plus waterpump. ( yes alex just means more repaired cambelt failures for us lol) i know from quite a few snapped clios not including sports they just barely make there cambelt due date and last very little over. de-phasers tend to go on the sports before the cambelt does lol.

i work for a peugeot main dealer, peugeot cambelt change is just that...

tensioners are very very rarely required, if they are its usually something else thats damaged them

water pumps on the other hand, i think they are fitted with 'crust' from the factory

Still seems silly to me, for the sake of around £60 extra for 5+ years peace of mind?
