seams the 5 gearbox speedo pick up is reading wrong on the dash as i was travelling shall we say but the speedo was only showing 40mph i have not had anyone follow me or went past one of those daft speed signs that tell you how slow you should be going lol

anyone encountered this before ?
and remedies

ps the engine and gearbox was installed into a clio last weekend :)

You using the 5 gt turbo gearbox? Have you fitted the dash clocks and speedo electronic cable from the 5 too?

When my speedo was repaired the auto elec must have just thrown the needle back on as mine was reading way to low. I got the GPS on my iPhone fired up with the front cover from the dash off and worked out how far out it was. I then pulled over and push the needle around and went for another run. It took me a few attempts but, mine now reads 100km/h when I'm actually doing 98km/h.

Hope that helps.

Also check to see if your odometer is counting the right distance too i.e. the far right digit turning over every 100m (or 1/10th of a mile for UK cars)

mines the same mate, used to read about 20mph to slow upto about 60mph then this would become even greater.i disconnected the speedo cable half way down where there is the connector and cut this away and soldered the wires up and now it reads 10mph slower so got a bit better but still not solved.:confused:i even took all the clocks apart to have a look inside but all seems ok.my odometer hardly works says i have cover about 20 miles in about 2000 miles and this is only the trip thats reading the actual miles does not work at all.

Mine took ages to clock up a mile, took little motor off inside speedo, free'd it up and put it back then it was fine ;)

Yeah mate, it turns the mile reels round, give the motor a few spins tiny bit of wd40 and put them back so cogs are engaged
