Weather besides (which actually made it a little more fun on track but only sucked when you got wet standing around) today was another class day organised by RTOC.

Nice to see all the regular faces and some new.

Thanks to all those who work your arse's off so we can have fun, to sum it up, my mate said on the way home

"Is it bad I look forward to today more than my pending wedding?"

I wont mention names

Was a good day. Span my car, which put me off tracking in the rain quite a lot... Didn't put all that time, money and effort into building the car, to bin it on its first outing!

Unlucky Tarmac Trasher - Nick (I think it was him) for rolling the clio! I saw it just as we were leaving :(

Yea Tarmac Trasher Nicks Willy Clio was well and truly fcuked, don't know how many times it rolled but he walked away which was the most important thing :agree:

Have to say I was a bit disappointed with the lack of R5 GTTs on the day...

Bit annoyed with the rain, then again the last few national days have been awesome in terms of weather and we were due a ****ter.

However, the calibre of the standard cars on the day was amazing, loved Brigsys ph2 and Rob@Backyards ph1...:D

The modified/hybrid creations weren't shy either and some of the work that has gone on with these cars is brilliant. We have some clued up members and it really shows :agree:

Looking forward to next year already, I WILL be there in my own car :D

Great people as always with some interesting weather.

And big big thanks to all my local members who helped me get my car track ready.

RTOC you smashed it, very good weekend away. shame about the weather but i enjoyed it non the less. woud have been nice if it looked like more of a renault turbo club but the mix of cars help to divide the track more evenly. i had a nasty spin but fantastic reactions from the marshals with the flags time and time again saved many and they deserve a pat on the back for sitting in that rain for our safety :agree:
i also killed my turbo but bigdanc kindly lent me one and mike a few other parts off his van so many thanks for that and the help getting it fitted to get me home and back out on track in the afternoon.

I went out in the morning but I couldn't full throttle it at any point on the straights because the back end kept breaking loose.

I left all the gear in the car, the boot was full to the brim and the rear seats too. I had chairs, generator, huge tent, Dawn's massive suitacse, my backpack, tools and all sorts.

Anyway, with all the weight, the car still pulled really well on the 6 laps I did. I did a couple of slow warm up laps to get the engine up to temp. I was a bit a bit reluctant to bin the car after only owning it three days, but after 2 practice laps on the dry line the car was holding stupidly well. The acceleration, stiffness and brakes really blew me away. As i've only owned the car a very short period of time I haven't had a chance to get used to it with the **** weather all week.

Even with the short amount of track time I got, it was still good.

Hmm, after another mamouth journey in the hi lux coating fellow motorists in black smog and burning more fuel than an F1 car..., in convoy we arrived at a very damp mallory, thought to myself....it will be greasy out there tommorow, well after a few beers and barbie shennigans the morning arrived!
Got the cup and all it junk to the paddock , fired up the cup after many months and it fired on two..., well after me an paul b got well stuck in and got the plugs out and i wire brushed them.....shocking as they were, she fired and buisness was ressumed!!..:)
once signed on , i got the ole girl out there , not ideal conditions i thought to myself for trying out the new lsd box..., still the car went well, i did hold back a little as it was crappy out there but the box....after colin {master} adjusted the gear linkage was fantastic, the first ten laps or so i could not get second on the hair pin and that was a proper headache..., still all in all , despite the crappy weather , i did manage a fair few laps and to meet quite a few people i hadnt seen for ages which was great!!!!.
Hats off to rtoc as a club it has to be said we really are a great bunch!!!,..:D.

I must say, sorry nick that you rolled the car buddy , thers nowt worse than hearing that when you get pulled into the pits, it looked buggerd bud, i must say i did laugh though bud when steve told me what you instantly did with the hat..., you legend you!!!, hope your neck gets better soon bud etc, time to use the sympathy vote with tor....;).
On a serious note though , it does show that cages , gloves , suits, boots etc, fire exstinguishers are sometimes bloody good to have!!!

One last big thankyou to jerp for bringing the cup rims despite your back and handsome lomo for bringing the box!!!!! {an not driving the clio...:wasntme:}

Thanks everybody for a good meet ......matty /jesus.

Yea hope nick is ok! My old man got all pictures in sequence of the crash and he is one lucky guy, there is one pic with it upside down about 5ft off the ground.

Other than that i had a great day, and the weather made it a bit more interesting and it even dryied out for the last hour to get a go in John's Atom:D

3rd time on track in my car clocked up 101miles and it was perfect yet again.

Loved all the standard 5's, especially the electric blue one. Brigsy's one makes me want to pull my finger out and do mine.

I was most impressed with ha55wel's clio trophy, loved it want to turbo my 172 cup now:D

I haven't been to National Day since 2007, but glad I came along to this one as I really enjoyed it. Hopefully next year I'll even be able to come along in a car of my own :)

I took a few videos of the event which I need to sort out, but with Dave R5's permission there was a special one that I've already uploaded. As there isn't a national day 2010 folder yet I've put it in miscellaneous under crash.mpg.

Glad Nick walked away from that clio also.

Despite the crappy weather, me tom and the mrs enjoyed the full 3 days. Was good to meet a couple of new folks on the friday night, log etc, saturday was very wet, but between heavy downpours i was out watching the track action , pretty gutted on nicks behalf regarding the flip , but kinda comical as i look over the barrier expecting the worse to see him with a bloody cowbody hat on. , the bike racing on the sunday was also pretty good, however just before we left a geeza stalled on the line and got hit by another bike, possibly broke his leg i think.

I almost had a tool free weekend, i started the r5 just before coming home, let it warm up, then decided to just pop the bonnet for the quick inspection. Im greated to oil everywhere, and notice my rocker cover seems to be missing the cap :( extra gutted because its the ninja style super expensive chrome ones, anyway , out with some the duck tape and half a can of coke, and hey presto i had a oil cap that got me home safe and sound. Still a bummer though as its just took me ages to get rid of the oil , and the chome rocker looks **** with a black standard cap.

Anyway , thanks for a good weekend folks, and those who no doubt put a lot of effort in to making it happen.

It all started early morning to the pitter patter of rain on my tent. I convinced myself that if I rolled over and had five more minutes the sun would appear and all would be well :)
The reallity was, that the rain that had been forcast at Mallory all week, for once was correct. Now I'll be completely honest with you, my clio is a second car and when it's raining I don't even bother getting it out, so the thought of taking it onto a wet track and pushing it to it's limits really didn't appeal to me :sad2: especially as this was my first ever car track day. So I kind of moped around for a bit watching everyone else wizzing around before I manned up and headed out on track.

Out on track I was initially very cautious, and was devastated to discover that I was miss firing badly when exiting Gerrards. I quickly diagnosed it as fuel starvation thanks to the length of the corner and being low on superunleaded. Other highlights from this session were JamesB sailing round the outside of me at Gerards clearly showing me I wasn't making the most of the grip available. So into the pits for a refuel (@£1.35 a litre ) and a quick breather.

Back out on track and I started upping the pace a little and picking off cars. Everything was going well as I started picking out braking points and getting a feel for the grip levels.
Drama started when I returned to the pits and after chatting to the lads for a couple of minutes turned to walk away from the car just as steam started pouring out of the bonnet . Turns out my plastic hose joiner for the turbo coolant had snapped and dropped my coolant everywhere. I'll admit I was a little disheartend at this point but everyone rallied round and told me to stop being a tart and get to halfords for a new one. Cue me and AndyRG jumping into his laguna and heading off on a mini adventure through leicester.
Fortunatley whilst sitting at a set of traffic lights I noticed Graham Goode Racing so we popped in there and explained the situation. The lads were great and sorted us out with a suitable hose joiner in record time, and after swinging by Halfords for coolant (as I'm a fanny and didn't want to mix what was left in the engine with a different brand) we were heading back to Mallory.

Upon return the Cole family (Matt,Mark,Johnty) gathered round and helped me get the offending hosejoiner removed, and the new one fitted. After a quick coolant top up and bleed we were back in the game.

I took Matt C and Chris out for a couple of pasenger rides and really started to string it all together, but it was all over to soon.

I'd just like to thank everyone who took time out to pop over for a chat about my car as I was genuinely blown away at how many people were actually intrested in it.

I'm also pleased to report that I won "best car of the show post 1991" which was quite a surprise

All in it was an absoloutly fantastic weekend (despite the rain) and I'd like to thank everyone who crossed my path for making it so enjoyable.

Cheers everyone and I'll see you next year,

Steve

Well, another top national day for me, infact i persuaded myself not to enjoy the weekend due to the rain and early sat morning i really couldnt be arsed. I couldn't take my car out on track as another fekin wheel bearing decided to start whining coming down the A1. I nearly had a plan to sort it, but the cack weather and lack of time forced me to leave it at the campsite!:( So after fixing various cars (leaks, acc pump arms, breathers, collant issues and hose joiners to name a few) i got the offer for a passenger ride in jaffa's T200. The track was like a swimming pool, but that crazy ******* carried on flat shifting all the way round, twitching on every corner! I then went out in Chris Blihty's clio cup for about 25 laps which was fekin awesome, and the grip of those things is just mental in the wet. Spent other laps in jonty's dodgy heap, infact we spent pretty much all of the laps facing the wrong way or heading for the barriers!!!:D His 5 ended up shatting its arse out through the breathers and that was that.

I thought i could'nt get round the track any quicker than in chris's clio cup untill Steve Hasswells trophy had a spare seat. Cant really say much really, bloody awesome car built by someone who looks like the love child of two tramps. IMO that car is pretty much what Reno have tried to produce with the entire sport range! Simply perfectly balanced in grip, power and handling and it embarressed pretty much all the jap and german stuff on track.

One final highlight was Andy G's clio with the megane/172 engine. Very aggressive, great fun, and sounded awesome on full boost.

So for me, the best national day to date, and the rain on track made it more fun!!:D

Indeed, it was a great day/weekend - Hats off to Miller & the Committee for another successful RTOC National Day, and thanks to Mallory Park for allowing us back there again this year.

Always nice to meet-up/see the old regular faces, and equally good to see the new breed of RTOC'ers supporting the club's main event.

Lost count of how many laps I drove in the Evo, but all was generally good on track given the conditions, although there were a few characters who made it awkward to over-take where they weren't using their mirrors, or simply pulling over to the right.

Congratulations to all the category winners - There were some great cars on show, and must've been hard work for the judges. The ante has been upped for next year for sure! :)

Some interesting comments at the AGM (thanks Eug'! :coffee: :D), and in particular I personally hope something does evolve from the 'triple-club' trackday idea. As mentioned at the AGM, it used to work very well for the MLR/SIDC/GTROC (before the MLR started going it alone), and I see no reason why it wouldn't work for us if we teamed up with another couple of Owners Clubs.

Was glad to see Nick walking & talking after his off - Lucky lad for sure, even more so given the lack of roll-cage! I appreciate it was a self-induced accident, but it does emphasise in general how easily accidents can happen on track, hence my comment before about the awkward over-taking/lack of mirror usage.

Typical of the weather to be nice the day after the event, but even with Friday/Saturday's weather it didn't matter really, as it was still a badical ND weekend :)

Absolutely awesome day got to thank everyone involved for organising this tremendous event. Ive been looking forward to this event since last year when my car wasnt ready. Dispite the weather I had the best track day ive ever had, maybe not the fastest (by miles) but drove my little 5 to its limits. Had one 360 spin :o that was worrying for about 2 secs then when I wasnt going to hit the barrier it was great fun lol:laugh:

Got to say a big thankyou to iam m, Ryan P and J8TRO for sorting my car out while I went to the briefing.

And thanks again to Iam m for sorting my Bad earthing problem out.

And thanks again to J8TRO for helping me fix my trottle cable.

I must admit I was well impessed with my engine, completed god knows how many laps and no problems at all, Temps were perfect the only problem I had was brakes, I really need to uprate my brakes for next year and maybe sort some lowered suspension out.

Cant wait till next year already.:):)
