The Green Haynes says one thing the Blue haynes says another, the R5 owners handbook says something else.
I just do mine on standard cam @.20 on the inlet and the same on the exhaust. I have done the same settings on my piper 285 cam aswell without any problems sounds quiet aswell
The owners handbook states that the C1C,C1E,C1G,C1J,C2J and C3J all have the same cold valve clearances for their standard cam which is 0.15mm for the inlet and 0.20mm for the exhaust :)

:agree:
Increase both those values by 0.05mm if fitting a warm cam (270, 285) and again by another 0.05mm if fitting a hot stick (BP300, Kent RT200, etc).
sweet, well its standard cam so 0.20 and 0.15 it will be :)
Thanks guys
0.2mm on the exhaust, 0.15mm on the inlet ;)
well piper says something completely different :)
inlet 0.25 ext 0.30
Piper also quote .20/.25
The hotter the cam/the higher the power-band, the more the valve clearances are increased.
The OP has a standard cam anyway, so all this is pretty much null & void.
:)
That might explain why some people engines are so loud :)
i spoke to piper technical today and they quoted me them numbers + they said the valve clearance is so it hits the cam at the right angle.....i always thought it was just because of the lift....
And there was me thinking it was because of heat expansion...

i feel this subject is like a ... did the egg or chicken come first  we need a roller and set them up with differant settings after each run and see if it makes a differance
Piper also say do both inlet/exhaust at .25 with the 285  http://www.pipercams.co.uk/pipercams/www/product.php?pid=R5TBP285
I set valve clearances at
std cam .15in .20ex
piper 285 etc .20in .25 ex

Not really. It's basic mechanical theory.
