Piper 285!!!

Just put a 285 cam in the motor and attempting to ajust tappets and the ajusting screw has nearly gone!! have i cocked something up or do i need to get something else??? new buckets or ajusting thingys?? Please help!!!!!!!!!

Have you fitted the uprated springs as well?

You should fit new buckets with a new cam, I think there is a thread on it in the articles

try putting the screw on the bottom of the tappet rather than the top. - that'll be where all the thread is right?

Sounds like the originl cam used to grind it to 285 spec was quite worn down then, that'll answer why the tappets are wound down so far.

As Sparkie says try putting the adjusting nut underneath.

I was told that 6 years ago when I put a 285 in my lump. but back then they where £25+VAT each would hate to think what they cost now days.

Thanks for your replys people!!!! yep the valve springs have been replaced and good idea for putting ajusting nut going under rocker arm!!

this is a common problem with the 285 cam.i think gordini push rods can help over come the problem as they are a tiny bi longer:scared: but i might be wrong:agree::disagree:

i tried to get followers from renault london. they only had a few in the country and the rest were on back order and the price was laughable.
