View Full Version : AARRRRAAAHHH........smoking
ok i have been having issues with my car smoking on high boost between 3rd & 4th now today after a little blast she is smoking heavily now on tick over and running, now im going to do a comp test tomorrow and im about to check the play in the turbo but do you think the mods i have done to the breather system could cause it? (i dont think so as its loads of oily smoke)
ideas please :cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Possibly valve stem oil seals.. They lift at high boost and can cause a hydrolic effect by going up and down with the valve.. mite also be badly worn valve guides..

Check turbo first and then go from there.
As Dav says too poss that the valve stems have worn out, if it was rings i would say you'd be seeing the engine breath from the rocker cover and oil catch tank rather than the exhaust.

have you try;d changing the breather/ (front ) bk just incase ?
there is play on the turbine wheel.............:cry::cry:
just pmed adam
maybe he could do an exchange at national day :) :)
going to still try a few things down the unit tomorrow....compression test swap breather over but its smoking way too much in my opinion for something other than the turbo
:cry::cry::cry:
Could be rings/cracked ringland(s). A compression test will reveal all...
i really do hope so as i can fix rings in 2 day but i cant a turbo :(

if needed that spare engine and box i have you can use for nd if you find anythink really bad could also try the t2 i have if needed aswell
any in and out of the turbo shaft means its shot. :(
Right Its all fixed smoking now gone....... :)
it turns out if you block the oil drain off the separator (the small thin pipe running down by the timing chain) the oil will back up from the oil drain from the bottom of the turbo and make the turbo smoke...!!!!:eek::eek::eek: (well it did on mine)
will still be gettin adamL to have a look at my turbo at nat day and if anyone can bring a compression tester with them and help me check i would be most appreciative :)
and thanks to sparkie and steve (byeall) for there input :)
