View Full Version : Removing sunroof & adjusting coilovers
Hi just two little niggles I've not yet attempted to sort properly yet. I've had a go at sealing my sunroof, but unfortunately it didn't get me anywhere so I need to attack it properly. In my opinion I need to remove the whole thing to do it properly, what's the best way to go about this? And what's the best sealant to use? The old Vaseline trick didn't work :sad2:
Okay secondly I need to adjust my Gaz coilovers. I did ask in the Gaz coilover thread already going but unfortunately received no reply. I've been told to start off with I need to get the strut brace off... what else is involved? I do have the adjuster luckily. Do I actually need to get under the car or can it all be done from the engine bay?
So far I haven't resolved one single problem with this car... so help :crap:

If your going to seal the sunroof you need to use a long lasting waterproof type of sealant as I have never had to seal my sunroof I can not confirm.
When you say adjust the coilovers what are you wanting to adjust ride height or the damping effect?
Sorry I meant my coilovers are set to the hardest possible setting, and it's a ridiculously harsh ride... need to soften them up a bit!
7 or 8ml spanner gets in, as the adjuster i got with mine is useless.
If they are on their hardest, just turn them all the way back and adjust accordingly.
Im starting off at the softest all round and i will stiffen them up.
Hope this helps
Aim for around half way on the front dampers for damping adjustment with Gaz...

High sorry if I'm pointing out the obvious but after the strut brace is off do I need to adjust that bolt... and then what? I have no idea about coilovers :ashamed:

As for the sunroof is it just the following that needs taking off, I don't have the correct star key atm so more borrowing from work I guess!

depending on the coilovers there will either be an adjuster nut/circle on top where the big nut holds the coil over to the strut top turn that anti-clockwise (gently) all the way to soften them up. you will most prob need to remove the strut brace.
If the adjuster is at the bottom near the wheel turn the knob anti-clockwise may need to undo a small grub screw with an allen key first.
you can remove the sunroof glass without any tools. you unclip the rear catch and lift it out. the front bits just help locate the glass and let it "hinge"
Update, sunroof is sealed, working fine.
Coilovers... today I got the strut brace off, but there is no way on earth I can use the official Gaz adjustment tool, as I just can't get to the top of the nut. I've tried using a spanner and managed to move it 2-3mm anti-clockwise, but anymore than that it continues to slip off. The nut is a bit rounded off, it feels kinda spongy when moving, certainly not a good connection. Any ideas from here? This is what I currently have...
