crunching on start up

hi my mate has fitted a engine in his campus from a gtturbo. he has built the engine himself, it has started up about 5 times, but on start up has a bad crunching noise from the fly wheel. he changed the flywheel and it has done the same thing. any ideas

your starter motor isnt engaging with the ring gear (flywheel) properly. do you have the dowel in the right place? if so the starter might require a slight tap to get in the right place:smashpc: i had this prob with mine tried new flywheel and a few starters in the end i gave it a nock with the hammer and it sorted it.;)
