Does any body have the dimensions of a Volvo BF18T con-rod and also the dimensions of a Clio/19 16v con-rod, just trying to see if there are any differences and if so what they are.

I have both of these but unfortunatly there in the engines so can't really measure them:laugh:

I don't know about x-sections and things but they're the same length atleast. anything with an 83.5mm crank will have the same length rods. 93mm crank 2L engine's have taller rods.

Ah i see so if the volvo crank is 83.5mm then they will fit i'll have alook in my haynes manual tomorrow for the measure ment of it, i should think the gudgen pin hole will be the same too.

yeah. all of the gudgeon's on F blocks I've come across so far have been the same.

would be good to know, keep us up to date with this mate :agree:

a bit of disagreement on the length for the 1.8 engines, but only 0.004"

both being aftermarket, could each of them have measured inaccurately by 0.05mm ? too small for me to worry about anyway.

Are these for a 1.8l engine Andy? Only reason i ask is i looked on another sight a they say the 2.0l rods are 144mm tall too.:crap:

What's the allowed tolerance on rods?

it looks like could all be 144mm:crap:

now then, 1.8 16v rod length I only know on the strength of what I've been told! but I assure you the volvo rods are shorter than 144mm.

The Wossner site lists for 16V engines, sounds like the 8V are different. Are all 1800 blocks the same height?

the 2l block is taller than the 1800cc block. the volvo block is the same height as the 1800cc. the volvo pistons must have a different compression height then.

Your right mate, i did abit of measuring today with a Volvo lump i found stripped down at my engineers. The rod length is 134mm from centre to centre, the piston height from centre of gudgen pin is 44mm while the clio 16v piston measures at 34mm.
Looks like thats where the difference in the rod hieght is between the two as the volvo piston waqs made taller because of the combustion chamber.

Shots my idea down for the moment:(

sounds right mark, when I put the volvo rod against the fecked 172 rod I'd have said it was 10mm shorter

don't tell me your after fitting forged rods ? I don't think the standard ones would let you down. I'd think about rod bolts though, and balancing things up since your after big rpm's

Yeah looks like Volvo made a new set of con-rods for the turbo lump because of the size of the piston.

I was looking to using a set of the H-section forged rods in my engine but it looks like i'll need to build a bottom end of bits from here and there due to the combustion chamber design. Only real reason was i found a company selling sets off cheaper then usual so thought might try them.

I am deffinatly looking into a set of stronger bolts due to the rpm i will be running.
