Hi peeps,
after a little help.... I 've just got my engine back up and running and I seem to have developed a missfire...
So the symptoms are as follows..
Trouble idling have to have it set around 1600 rpm.
When driving with lite throttle, it gets to around 2500 to 4000 and is coughing and splutering, give it a little more gas and she picks up nice??
I've clean the idle jet several times to no avail.....
any ideas??

distributor timing ! check that the distributor is timed up with the cam properly. If you need to fine adjust it you can make the distributor adjustable by turning the whole thing 180deg so that the clamp and 11mm bolt just clamp rather than lock it, such that you can adjust it either way for best spark contact.

Lol so you reckon I've prob got it a tooth out?? I would of thought that it would always be the same no matter how much throttle i used, if I had??

When mine sat a couple of years ago the dizzy cap was the problem, tried cleaning it up but not much better, new dizzy cap and rotor arm from halfords for cheap and it was sorted

You'd think, but not so. The more load you have, the stronger the spark needs to be. As load and RPM change the ignition timing will change and so the amount of error between rotor and cap is altered. I used to find that problem pretty often with the C1J, normally I'd just make the dizzy adjustable, hold the engine at 2000rpm and find the sweet spot by twiddling the cap back and forth. That way you know you have the best alignment possible. But yeah, you may just be out a tooth so check for that first of course :)
