hi guys got a small prob(which will prob turn out to be a big prob:rolleyes:)ive just replaced a liner as the old one had cracked and the engine hydralocked blew loads of steam out the exhaust:cry:,but after putting everything back together today and starting it up.the engine sounds a bit rough(lumpy) on idle.and also after 3-4 minutes started smokeing out the exhaust, not so much on idle but if you blip the throttle it chucks out a fair bit:(my old man reckons its excess water in the exhaust but im not to sure as the idle is rough also the afr,s have changed its now reading high 11,s low 12,s:confused:

if the tappets were to tight would this cause any of the above problems????

thanks

my first port of call would be to recheck/readjust the tappets and go from there

Oil going past the piston rings, or valve guides, or turbo seals.

Is it oil smoke or water smoke?

nah it only started when it was warming up after about 3-4 minutes

Something might have gone wrong with the new head gasket or perhaps you've got a crack on your cylinder head .I'm not as experienced as others in here but I think that might be it.

the head was checked when it was skimmed,im hopeing its not the headgasket, prob best buy my self a compression test gauge and cross my thingers

If you cracked a liner you've probably shot aload of water through the turbo and into the exhaust so that couold be the smoke/steam.

For it running rough does it sound like its missing abit, i've found that when i've hydrolic the piston before i have bent the con-rod. Did you check the rods before putting it back together.

as I said in the pm mate, that's steam, it'll take a few motorway miles to burn it off, don't stress.
