View Full Version : Aftermarket oil cooler installation.
Ok so i have finally got my sandwich bolt adaptor sorted so i can fit my mocal setup.
The question i have is there a specific way the oil cooler needs to be mounted? i.e pipes coming out the top.
The pipes thinkauto have sent seem to be very long & my cooler has to be grill mounted due to the size of my intercooler. The pipes fit a lot better with the pipes at the bottom of the oil cooler will this make a difference?
I have seen pics of side mounted & even racecars with pipes from underneath but no theory why it needs to be mounted with pipes any particular way? Thoughts all :)

Only reason i could think of is air lock, but then again it aint really a sealed system is it! I would say no issue with mounting the cooler upside down.

Sealed or not an air lock is still possible, think about it... air could gather in the cooler and not have many routes to get out... just my 2 cents... same principle of a radiator in your home... but an oil cooler has no bleed screw:laugh:

my pipes come out at the bottom and all has been fine for me too.
You could tap and thread a bleed screw in it? shouldnt be too much work, depends on the design of the cooler to whether its poss i suppose.
From what i have read a lot of o.e side mount oilcoolers fill from the bottom so airlock shouldnt be too much of a prob? Also stops sludge bould up in bottom, no idea how true this is though.
