my car always seems to boil over recently, the water temp gauge always sits between the 2nd and 3rd mark but occasionaly gets close to going over.

I have wire the fan so it runs continuously but still sits high.

I also have a dribble of water coming back to the header tank but a good flow when the engine is revved.

i know the weather is hot but just wondered if its the norm..

no, you have a cooling system problem. Even on the hottest day, the engine shouldent boil over

What are you meaning by the 2nd and 3rd mark?

I go on the following:

1st - 9 O'Clock
2nd - 10 O'Clock
3nd - 11 O'Clock
4nd - 12 O'Clock

Going on that, the needle should sit between the 2nd and 3rd mark. It's when it constantly sits over the 3rd mark that it's too hot.

Yep, it's time to go investigating! You shouldn't need the fan on all the time.

When did you last give the rad'/system a flush? I'd start with that. I always used to flush mine through at the start of the summer months.

i would start with a full system presure test.

Your water pump might be shot, they often leak when the seals gone. Flush the cooling system out with a hose, block, rad, heater matrix etc. Go nuts as it takes ages to clear :)

Also check you fans drawing air front to back, I mixed my wires up once and had it boiling over till I spotted my balls up.

If the stat is funked then that would caus poor flow right?
remove it see how it runs

Could just need bleeding again, if not, I'd flush it all through.

how do you do that?

how do you do that?

Fit a tyre valve into an old pressure cap, fit the cap to the expansion tank, pump air into the system and watch/check for leaks :)
