suspension removal

I have come to remove my coilovers today from the clio and the problem I have is that the top nut I can`t crack as the suspension strut is also spinning.

I have tried using a swan neck spanner and another spanner to crack it but no luck. My next point of call was to get an impact gun but I don`t have one and my mate who does have one is in Alton Towers (Thanks Dave :sad2::D)

Has anyone got any other option before I get the grinder out and cut the suspension tunnel up:devil:

try to compress the spring a bit by taking the weight of car with a jack on the strut you are trying to undo, not removed struts or caps off a 5 but it works with other cars.Can also wrap rag round mole grips jaws and use those on chrome just be care full not to mark it where it dampens into the seal.......but i pressume with coilovers the coils are too close together to put grips between them :(

i used the mole grips and rag method and it works a treat but again it was not on coil overs.

I did this last week and the only thing that worked for me was molegrips a rag, penatrating fluid and an windy gun!:smashpc:

try giving the swan neck spanner a tap with a big hammer.:D

impact gun like you said rich, might just have to wait to get it done.

I had the same issue a little while back and ended up taking the strut to a tyre shop so they could get some trigger time on it as my impact gun was fubar! It took them 2 secs ;)

it took me 2 secs aswell once I have the impact gun:cry:

all that time i spend using different methods! God damn eletric gizmos:D
