Yo!

Just got a pleasant surprise - rang Peter James insurance to see if they would give me a classic policy (I was under the impression that you had to be 25 to insure a classic performance car), and it came out about £400. £600 cheaper than a normal policy for me! I'm 21 with 4 years clean driving.

That's no mods declared though. I'm going to ring them closer to the time I'm renewing it to check how much they want for mods - but he said for the odd modification, it won't cost much more, and mine is pretty standard performance wise.

Who are you guys insured with? Any other decent companies worth checking out?

My Dad told me Peter James is set up by the same people who set up Footman James, but it was sold to a different company.

Either way - I'll give them a go :D

That's great! Iv been with elephant for the last 5 years and have 5years no claims and my last payment was 700! I was dissapointed with it to be honest, but I thought you had to be 25 or over to insure for classic? Mite give them a call :agree:

You have to be over 25 with footman james. I just insured with them, 25 years old, £130 fully comp classic policy with all mods declared.

Guess the person I spoke to at FJ was having an off day, as they certainly didn't come up trumps for Whitey.

Dave doesnt deal with quotes. I just spoke to any adviser after speaking with Dave and they were really helpful. Maybe there very fussy on post codes or where the car is stored?

Yeah, I feel hard done by :crap: ;)

Just I fail to see how they can quote me a couple/few hundred quid more than the quotes posted on here, yet I'm probably one of the oldest farts in the club, driving since I was 17, clean licence, nice area post-code, car stored in the back yard, blah blah blah.

Like I said, perhaps the person I spoke to was having an off day...

Edit: But then looking at Jesus & Sparkie's replies, maybe not...

Only other thing i can think of is maybe footman discount very heavily for limited miles. I set mine to 1500 miles for the year as i know i will never get that many miles done.

I got a quote for the old Raider at the classic car show in Brum last year from Footman James with a £5000 agreed value and a 3000 (i think) limited mileage for..... £182.10 ;)

And they wrote it down on a little card which i still have now & it says it's valid for 12 Months! :D

Ahh but you forgot to mention the rabid Alsatian that guards your car...you know the one that foams at the mouth and ONLY backs off after you show him the legendary Blue jumper ;)

Insurance Co's should be paying me if that's the case! :D

If I still have Whitey come Xmas time, I'll try FJ again. Hopefully they'll come up trumps this time around ;)

bric, i tried Peter James today, and said they dont insure people under 25 on Renault 5 GT turbos. When i told them they had given you a price she went away and then came back and told me they wouldent insure me because i had three points
