Hey all, I took the air temp after intercooler today running 18psi and standard intercooler and t25 turbo. I was seeing temps of 81 degrees max. I know that without intercooling, 14 psi gives you about 100 degrees temp. Is my intercooler opening?

You can take it out and test in in hot water (so I hear)...
Or take the stat out and put in an M10 bolt so the flap is always open and then see what temps you're getting.

Wants de-flapping & strapping with a T25 @ 18psi I would imagine.... or binning & getting something better on there..

Wants de-flapping

fail.

you need to stick the flap up.

if you remove it the intercooler will not work properly.

I don't have the budget at the mo to go upgrading the intercooler. First off I really wana confirm what sort of temps people are getting after the IC? I guess I could test mine by taking the temp before and after the IC and seeing if there's any appreciable difference.

Stick a screw in the side to hold the flap open instead of glueing/removing. I glued mine & it fell down, I only noticed after a load of runs at santa pod, still performed well:laugh:

14 psi gives you about 100 degrees temp

Does it?

or binning & getting something better on there..

Standard intercooler is perfectly fine (read efficient) @ 18psi, even more so with a larger 'T25' frame turbo.

Ok took it for a run this eve and pre IC temp is 127oC at 18 psi. Post IC is 81oC. So the intercooler is opening but not sure if it's all the way. I mightbolt the flap up and give it a blast as 81oC is fairly crispy.

what are you using to measure the temps?

Type K thermocouple in a digital thermometer

I take it that you have tested it is calibrated ok :)
Like I say IMO the standard cooler is ****e for anything over 16 psi on a T2.
Again IMO.

It measures my just boiled kettle at about 95-96 degrees so I'm guessing it's about right :)

I've just done some calcs using those temperatures and it shows my turbo is running at about a 69% thermal efficiency so that's good at least! Intercooler efficiency I think works out at about 36% efficient, which isn't so good lol.

Does it?

Yep, theoretically it should give 83oC if your compressor is 100% efficient.
