View Full Version : Confused about Gordini turbo and Gtt

Hi everyone.. Im hoping someone can give me some quick info. Whats the difference in engines... and why didn't the same engine (crossflowed head and fuel injection?) like they did in the gordini and put it in the 5 GTT??

The gordini was not fuel injection, it was a suck through carb mounted on a plenum before the turbo! To answer question though, it probably come down to cost. It was cheaper to knock out the C1J which was still able to make the 120hp required at much less cost than the crossflow since it had already been in production for donkey's years before in the R8, R4, R11 and others.

You're probably thinking of the Turbo 1 and 2, like this:

- they did have fuel injection but it was mechanical (K-Jetronic)

The T1/T2, developed 160bhp as standard, and could make 210 easily (and upwards of that)

All the cylinder blocks are similar. the capacity is the same (1397cc), but there are other differences. It's possible to put a Gordini head on a GTT block.

new manifolds, injection system, gordini cam, pushrods, cam followers, head, rocker cover, new water pump etc etc...

you could fit a turbo 2 engine in a gtt, do to the layout....but you try and find a cheap one with all the ancillaries.....
