Just got back from the Pod, witnessed the first 10.6 @ 141mph.

Then in the knock out rounds he pulls a 10.7 @ 144mph! Showing its got more power in there somewhere!:D
Was really pulling, hard to believe a 5 could go like that.

Toomy B did well today, upping the nitrous abit on his saw a 12.1 @ 110mph.:agree:

Backyard boys were doing well in there Civic, not quite hit the 10's yet bit still going well in the HKS series

I remember meeting Scoff for the first time at poss MY last RR, and he was just a quiet lad standing at the back watching

next time I saw him, he was had one of the quickest C1J's going

now having seen him squeeze a vag lump in a 5 and do this time with an f engine

he's just AMAZING!

(plus he proved his car CAN go around corners on a welsh mountain!! there's a VID somewhere to proove it!!!!)

Chris buddy! well done!

09-05-2010, 22:16
hey, thanks for the words guys :agree:

it was a long time comming as a few of you know, so more a relief than anything else.

the engine had been capable of a 10sec pass for while already but the rest of the system (gear ratio's, synchro's, other bits and bats) were causing a headache. the new gearbox build finally seemed to work well, only missing 2nd gear once in the knock-out round against James Hodson (10sec VW golf, ex FWD champion). I would have had him otherwise :D Reeled him in once it came up on song at the end of the track. Missing that gear was the end of my ESC round but not after 5 runs - the first 2 with a phantom rev limit @ 6500rpm which turned out to be the launch control intermittently activating while on the move. I ran the rest of the day with launch control disconnected and still managed a 1.67 and 1.68 60's in my last 2 runs of the day.

Pretty happy with the 144mph trap, with a heavier car too now. I had expected a best some 6-7mph slower than that.

The engine has a slight missfire at the top of the track that I need to resolve, it could be that I'm blowing the spark out at high boost or that the injectors are falling over at high duty. unsure, but I can work on that for next time.

Big thanks to glenn Hi5 and andy speck who came along as pit crew and helped immensly throught the day.

Finally, big well done to tommy b also, 12.1 from a standard T2 ! W.T.F !! :agree:

Glenn left his camera with me, I'll see about uploading some vids.

without wishing to sound overly optimistic (and those that know me properly will know that I am the least optimistic person you're ever likely to meet!!) but 10.6 for the car's terminal speeds is pretty piss poor. I was a bit annoyed at myself - I hadn't driven the strip for 8 months and it was like I'd forgotten how. The runs are very poor technically as any real racer who watches the video's will be quick to spot. First time out, new engine and a new race series to get my head around so decided to cut myself a little slack!

You sell yourself very short with that statement.

What are the dates of the series your in Chris? I think I really have to see this car in action. We'll need an RTOC/Scoff supporters section reserved in the grandstand I think. :smokin:

You not going to 'pod next Friday Al? Hopefully Chris will be there banging in a few more good runs.

Congratulations !You took the 5 shell into another dimension as far as performance in a dragstrip is concerned.Wish all the best and seems that we'll never find out if a C1J could be that fast.Keep up the good work.:agree:

Hi Alex, next round of eurosports is at the Retro show, then USC (ughh..) so mechanical failure aside I should be at both :)

Just watched the vid's - Holy mother of Jesus, that fecking RIPS! :D  :agree:

Chris, you're messing up my head something rotten with your F-series tuning, as I'm swaying even more towards outing the Jap taxi, buying a 172/182, cheeky turbo conversion, and having fun on track in that instead. God damn you!

The key is the gearbox, that always was, and still is the major hurdle to overcome. Scoff might be interested in swapping the Tokyo Taxi for a gearbox conversion....

Mart, in the wider Clio shell you could shuv in any VW gearbox you like - one of the newer 6 speed units which are equally as robust and don't have the cruddy synchromesh setup that my older o2j transmission has. Would love to see you do something a bit off the wall like that :)

it would be interesting to compare some slips scoff (not ours, no comparision lol)
but we raced the TDI north car on 1 race, he ran 10.5 i think, so close to your ET, but with 138mph, he also pulled 1.6x 60ft as you do, but i did notice he was at 114mph 1/8th`s, you can compare the slip in full if you want it, might find some usefull data

I didn't go that quick in the 1/8th rob, about 105mph average I think but that should rocket if I can improve the 330'.

Now then rob, you've managed to post up all my worst bits  1st 2 runs there I should point out had a phantom rev limit @ 6500rpm in 2nd and 3rd that was later determined to be the launch control gone faulty. Peak power comes up @ about 8krpm so you can see it was a bit of a problem. The burnout on the last video was me trying to get the box into 2nd to really heat the tyres up but it just wouldn't have it. I gave up trying.

Andy, tyres, yes I was concerned my skinny wheels would not pass scruiteneering because of the speed rating. They weigh a tonne those things, I need some real skinny rear wheels. The supplier of my drag wheels still does not have any matching rears in stock after 6 months of asking :crap:
