View Full Version : Steering lock

I have some wheels that I want to use on my R5 project. They all fit fine except on full lock they scrub on the inner arch. Obviously this is unacceptable for the MOT.

I was wondering - does anyone know if there is there a way I can easily reduce the lock on the steering rack so that the wheels don't scrub on full lock?

P.s, I've tried spacers which didn't solve the issue.

Thanks.

How much is it scrubbing? Are the wheels the correct size for a GTT? if it was only a very slight amount, i read somewhere that different tyres have varying dimensions /shoulder shape even though they are the same size which may possibly reduce scrubbing. Either that or see if a different tyre size will do the job.

You could put some (nylon) lock stop shims in to the steering rack. Quite an easy job.

peel back the rack gaiters, and zip up a cabletie on the end of the track rod, it'll limit the rack a little bit, then pop the gaiters back and test.
