View Full Version : C1J oil on block
Right guys I am having some probs with my car i seem to be getting oil up the front of the block I am unsure as to what is causing this as I have replaced the dipstick ( crimped it and put some tape around it making it very tight), replaced the oil return pipe to sump) and used sealant on the end of it, even the oil level thingy in the sump i have put loads of sealant around it, I have made sure all bolts are tight yet i still seem to be getting oil up the front of the block, new rocker cover gasket also in place.
It's not the oil cooler all pipe secure an leak free and they run in a different direction anyway.
I am now thinking that my block has got a crack in it that opens up when warm??
Any other ideas??

Oil return to sump possibly? - Mine split on the old white 5 and caused a mess up the front of the block.

Just replaced that with a brand new silicone jobby and thought it would cure it but to no success:(

Hmmmm
I can only suggest giving it all a good wipe down, take it for a quick blat and have another look, the splash should be more localised and give you a better idea of where its coming from.
Is the oil cooler sandwich plate tight/leak free?

Good call.
Think its just a case of checking everything oil related 'down that way'
Oil filter/Sandwhich plate
Sump
Oil level sensor
Oil pressure sensor
Oil cooler pipeork
Dipstick
Blanking plate
Oil return (have got the right dia pipe for your phase sump outlet?)
Turbo oil feed (where it joins the block)
Turbo oil feed? the part that the pipe bolts onto can crack.

both my oe Oil pressure sensors leaked badley ;)
and my mates car did the same till i fixed it :)
don't forget to check the bung on the front of the block between the alternator bracket and the sandwich plate :)
yeah defo got the correct id for the oil return pipe as the originals was a phase 2 connection and my sump is a phase 1 jobby, will go through the checklist tomoz
many thanks for all the advice will double and triple check everything
im suspecting the dizzy shaft gasket.!
wip the dizzy shaft off and check the gasket or if the you actually have a gasket fitted.
i had the same prob as you on my last 5 and it was down to forgetting to put the gasket in place.

Mine doesn't have a gasket but there is no oil around it:confused:
What sort of gasket should it be?? Paper, rubber??
I had this once - Turned out to be a leaking cam cover. Splodge of Thixo around the cover done the trick. Worth checking if you've been working in that section of the engine.
