Not really. Has anyone noticed the price?... Not to mention £10k for a piece of **** 205 engine:scared:

Sorry, but you could put together a good 500bhp engine in alot of cars for far less than that, what a joker.

firstchoicegary
23-04-2010, 22:45
i wouldnt pay that i agree you can get an evo 6 with 300bhp or old m5 or two fat fives!!

Rob@Backyardracing
23-04-2010, 23:08

Nar, two different cars we have, but an R5 with a B16 (rs250nut) will for sure give the fastests 5`s on this club a hard time..

The 1.6 i was ref too was the d16, this is found in the EG esi, Del sol, EP3 type S (different cam spec etc).. all D16s tho...

5alldaway
23-04-2010, 23:10
i can see its alot power for a 1.6 8v pug engine but look how much it costs to get that that power

my 205 gti6 isnt far from that power and that cost me 230 pound and thats standard

firstchoicegary
23-04-2010, 23:13
230 quid??

5alldaway
23-04-2010, 23:17
230 quid??

yes but its a 2 litre 16v from a 306 gti6, 167bhp standard

firstchoicegary
23-04-2010, 23:18
good engine been in a 306 gti6 wasnt amazing but good power delivery 306 to heavy tho

Rob@Backyardracing
23-04-2010, 23:20
ok so d16 you saying is not as high reving as rs250 b16 engine??

Correct, you dont really want to rev a d much over 9k, the B (my next lump this winter) will rev to 10.5-11krpm no more...

£230 should get you full running gear for a D.. i paid £255 or summet for my white EG esi of ebay.. just needed a Rad... :)

Tony Walker
23-04-2010, 23:21
i agree, its a ridiculous amount of money to be thrown at an engine.

5alldaway
23-04-2010, 23:22

but mines is a stripped 205 hehe, you could supercharge it and have over 300bhp for less than that longmans engine

firstchoicegary
23-04-2010, 23:22
on 1/4 mile higher revs ok but on track you need low down power , are we talking of turbod d and b 16 engines? or naturaly aspirated?

firstchoicegary
23-04-2010, 23:24
whats kerb weight of a 205 compared to a five?

5alldaway
23-04-2010, 23:27
whats kerb weight of a 205 compared to a five?

if you go by the books the 205 weighs around 50kg more

when i had my five running 160 bhp with a heell alot of other mods i done rtoc track day and went past a couple 205s stripped and 306 gtis , a 205 with gti6 engine must be fast do you use the 6 speed box or a 5 speed

5alldaway
23-04-2010, 23:30
thing with the pug boys they love to stay loyal to the old 8v, theres some chap on the drivers forum who spent a fortune on a 1.9 8v engine and made over 200bhp but that went wrong with oil issues, more money than sense

5alldaway
23-04-2010, 23:32

you must be a tool then lol i use the short ratio 1.6 box from a 205 gti, 5 gears

205 1.9 or ren 5 turbo two cult cars. i know we are on a rt website but whats better??
standard performance times are same but on track i think 205 mite have the edge , modified tho i think the 5 has it hands down

firstchoicegary
23-04-2010, 23:36
i have no fear had many fast cars and four superbikes never knew how fast my five was on track or how well it handled at high speed

5alldaway
23-04-2010, 23:43
its been debated on here before, from my experience i would take the 205 everytime, its not as quick as the gtt but i felt i can trust it, not driven my 205 gti6 tho cause we still building it, so i am comparing a standard 1.9 gti to my old gtt running a bar, standard on standard the gtt is a tad quicker

firstchoicegary
23-04-2010, 23:45
five lighter but both have same suspension set up??

5alldaway
23-04-2010, 23:47

firstchoicegary
23-04-2010, 23:48

5alldaway

know more than me then

i dont know much mate, it helps quite a few of my mates like the pugs

firstchoicegary
23-04-2010, 23:59
i would love to have a mint 205 1.9gti but a five has turbo and that wins for me what you think, pug can have throtle bodies etc but unles engine transplant cnt see ever beating a tuned five

5alldaway
24-04-2010, 00:16
if i could go back 8 years and knowing what i know now i would choose the 205, i just think its an allround better car

i also think a car is as fast as someones wallet

firstchoicegary
24-04-2010, 00:23
exactly right my mate had a skyline r33 gts with 600bhp spent 30k had solid welded boost pipes cost 2k a turbo size of my flat, great in straight line but put round a bend put your foot down and all that power is useless, i think since i was 17 i spent 150k on cars and bikes , go back 8 years i wuda saved and got audi rs4 and tuned to hell. or r34 gtr

Tony Walker
24-04-2010, 00:27
Surely thats the most fun part of 5 ownership, the majority of power/fun can be had for very little money. Its the little extras we like to treat ourselfs to that cost the extra and probably arent really necessary.

5alldaway
24-04-2010, 00:28
i look back at it all and i do regret it a bit, theres more to life than throwing money at cars

firstchoicegary
24-04-2010, 00:35
i know i had the best fun with my five had it two years my ex got me sell it spent 10 k all in and worth every penny never had so much fun in a car, last year i sold a maserati cost me in total 25k fine when it going well , but if i could go back i would never never have sold my five, another 2k on respray and more mods my five wuda been heaven ten times more fun and half the price the one and only car i regret selling. want another and waiting to bag another good one and get back to showing what a 1.4 french car can do

maybe in the future when i get my own place, if it comes with a garage and money allowing then i will want another 5, but it will need to be completely original and i probly wont even drive it :)

houses with garages cost quite abit more than ones with just drives. :( my house has got space for 4 cars on the drive (albeit small ones) and i do miss a garage though.
